I've been a GM owner (Camaro, Corvette, etc) for almost 40 years. While the 'retro' look is nice to look at on the Camaro, it doesn't handle like the Z does. The only GM car that comes close or exceeds the Z is the Corvette, but at a price point that is at least $30K above the Z, it's not a good buy, IMHO. I'm glad I chose the Z, lovin' the sheer fun factor of driving it.

Just to mention...The Camaro is already a car that isn't all that special when you see one on the road, or when you're walking to it in the parking lot. ZL1 or not, no one notices the difference other than enthusiasts.

The Z, though, is going to be a looker and pretty unique for many, many years.

I bet you could rent a ZL1 and try it out for a week!

Wow so far not too many good comments or reasons to get the ZL1.
As far as handling the suspension is way better than the 370z. It has the magnetic shocks the same ones on the Z06 and CTS-v. Now I think the Z handles good but might be stretching a bit saying its better. Look at the you tube video of that beast on a track and you might think differently, even with all that weight. Keep the comments coming cause it helps me to decide with everyone's opinions.

a lot of the video's showing the ZL1 on the track show the car using the motor to power its way through the corners not using its suspension so much. Camaros are known for the heavy body roll but solid straight line speed. Now thats not to say you could mod it to be a stiff car since aftermarket parts for this car are easy to find and cheap. As far as uniqueness factor (meaning how often you see them on the street 1 being the most etc etc.) they are not very

You should expect some bias towards the Z here... The ZL1 looks fun as hell but I don't think it is worth paying an extra 30ish thousand for. That's just me though.

I like Camaros and ZL1 definitely is an upgrade. But sounds like you want zl1 for street driving. No problems with that and it may be even a better daily than the Z. (more space, not as low to get into).
Just all depends on your finances and if you will still be happy with it 6 months from now when you see z/28's or another upgrade of it.

But on a side note I call dibs on the fast intentions exhaust being that we are both in the same city.

What is the point of this trade? More power? Better handling? Do you prefer the look of a camaro over our Z? Just want to spend money?
If power is the motivating factor, boost the Z. If it's power and handling, add coilovers... I don't know if it'll be as good/better/worse, it's just an idea. If you are thinking about getting a camaro to begin with, you will probably get it.

I like the Darth Vader look of the black ZL1.
Other reasons are its expensive to mod the 370z with not much gain unless you spend about 10grand or more to turbo/supercharge it. lastly I guess I am getting tired of it and I kinda want some V8 old school muscle. In the end I might just stay with my Z. Really all this is just a want not a need I have other cars.

Hate to say there is definitely a lot of bias here. The ZL1 outperforms the Z in every category except braking. It is a heavy car and may not feel as nimble as the Z, but when put to the test it will beat the Z with room to spare. Granted it does have a distinct power advantage. It's still a very well designed car.

That said, why the ZL1 over a C7 Corvette? Base price on a Vette is cheaper, the Vette is way lighter, quicker 0-60, better handling, better gas mileage, and looks better IMO. Even with the Z51 package and magnetic ride control, it comes out the same price as the ZL1. You can go much higher on the Vette of course, but you don't have to.

True that there is a bias BUT the ZL1 doesn't outperform in every aspect, sorry that is incorrect. The Z is lighter, more nimble and (as you already pointed out) has better braking. Pound for pound they are close in performance...if the Z had 300 more horses

You just repeated what I said without any counter facts to support your point. I already stated the Z feels more nimble which is due to it's lighter weight. Yet the ZL1 pulls as much if not more lateral Gs. The ZL1 trounced the 370Z on the Nurburgring and is up there with the big boys in time. Giving the Z the same power as the ZL1 isn't actually a good comparison either. A fair comparison would be to match hp/lb ratio. Do that and you have a very interesting battle.

In either case, you win with a C7 for the same price. I say get the Corvette.
