So what exactly do you think happens when you redline the car more often? Why do you think the factory put the rev limiter in? Why do you think they put it at 7500rpm if the car couldn't handle it? I'm not saying go out and keep the car bouncing off fuel cut your entire daily commute, but the idea that the car will damage itself at redline is asinine. It's right up there with the mind control chemicals in the airplane contrails and vaccines giving you autism.

That was a snarky post mainly aimed to mock the poster's posited sentiment that people who willingly & freely redline their cars (often) were likely to treat women in a predatory fashion. Also, the notion that one should use 6th gear to accelerate from 60 - 130...

![]() Putting a lot of load on the motor at too low rpms is far worse than hitting the factory rev limiter.

![]() It's even worse on my bike. 3rd is cruising along at 70mph, 4th-6th will get you arrested. ![]() I hate lugging engines along at low rpm which is probably why my fuel economy is such shite.

Good rule of thumb is to shift when your tach hits about halfway to redline (in our case, 3500 rpm). This would be considered your normal, daily driver type scenario. Depending on situation (driving up/down hill, weather, etc) you can change it a little either direction without hurting it. I would say keep it under 5500 on a regular basis to just to cut down on engine wear/tear and to keep a decent fuel mileage.
For those few times that you do decide to let her sing, just try to not bounce off the rev limiter too much. Over time, you will have it figured out. Feel free to experiment a little to see where you feel the most comfortable.

Our Z's like to be revved higher, so don't worry about pushing it at the higher RPM from time to time. Daily driving can be more conservative at shifting between 3k and 4k between gears.

I feel the car loves driving between 2.5K-4K. Even when riding the clutch, when DD'ing approach 1st gear close to 3K and ease it in. Then keep your shifts where the next gear lands in that range. There's too little power at 2K. If youre being a little more spirited (not balls to the wall), try fast revving into the 5-6K band before sliding into the next gear, keeping it in the 4-6K band. Better acceleration there. That's where I find the most smoothness in shifting in the two driving styles. I feel the clutch and synchros happier there.

This car is a bit difficult to drive when you are a novice to the manual scene. I had driven automatics for a bit over 10 years so getting use to this new driving style was a bit difficult. Nonetheless, in my case I shift in between 3k & 4k fron 1 gear to six. Somehow, I get the feeling that my car likes it a bit rough when I shift at higher revs. To each their own but shifting around 3k is fine. However if you want to have more fun higher revs are a must.
