Z Broke Down :(

So I was on my way to lunch, when I heard a griding noise in the front and then she just slowed down like limp mode where I couldn't accelerate. Then the engine died, and I was just coasting at 50 mph on an apex turn. Wow, that scared the **** out of me, no power steering and no power brakes. Anyway waiting for a flatbed and back to the store.. Can't wait until Monday to figure out the eff it was.

Do u own a manual?

Modshack 08-08-2009 03:14 PM

Ouch! Sorry to hear Lou. Good thing you have that special Warranty "connection"....;)

Hope it's something simple..

CBRich 08-08-2009 03:14 PM

Grinding noise, eh? That's never good. Have you done anything with the car lately? Oil change, part installation?

FuszNissan 08-08-2009 03:40 PM

Good thing my car has all stock parts....last thing I added was HFC's which was 2000 miles ago. It was strange. Oil temps were normal, no fuild puddles. Hummmm

thats not good, hopefully its an easy fix, keep us updated on the diagnosis!

davidyan 08-08-2009 04:24 PM

Any broken belts? Or, anything driven by the belt malfunctioning?

FuszNissan 08-08-2009 04:26 PM

Belts look good. She tries to start but won't turn over. Updates on Monday. Should see what code it threw.

Timing chain(s) slip or breakage or crank (bolt?).

kannibul 08-08-2009 05:01 PM

Now I'm glad I spent the $1200 on a 6yr / 75K "everything" warranty :)

Red370 08-08-2009 05:06 PM

I opted for the 4 year 100K one thinking my Z was going to be a daily driver...but I was lucky and picked up a beater in great shape and rebuilt motor for $1200. Now the Z is a garage queen thats driven only on weekends...so I doubt I will ever make it to 100K in four years.

I think if this were a problem with the 370Z in general we would have heard more reported happenings by now. It is probably just a one-off quality issue and nothing for anyone to really loose sleep over except the OP.

FuszNissan 08-08-2009 05:25 PM

I wouldn't worry about it. If I had to guess, Im leaning towards crank sensor.

That was my reasoning behind going 75K instead of more. :)

av370 08-09-2009 07:11 AM

Any update on this?

antennahead 08-09-2009 09:26 AM

My dealer gives a free lifetime powertrain warranty to the original owner on a new purchase, nice insurance.

John

SlikNik 08-09-2009 10:32 AM

If I owned a dealership I would have had a Tech in their on Sunday checking this baby out. Hopefully just a fluke thing

CCCLXXZ 08-09-2009 10:54 AM

VVEL DC Motor, just a guess...

ENT-Z 08-09-2009 01:02 PM

I just hope the dealer doesn't void your warranty with the aftermarket parts you have on...

Sorry, couldn't help myself! Seriously, that sucks Lou. Nice thing is, for however long yours is down, you can just hop in another one and take off :)

I had the exact same thing happen to me with my Cadillac CTS after only 3000 miles. It was a blown fuel pump. The worst part for me was it happened when I was in Southern VA in the middle of nowhere, but there happened to be a tiny Cadillac dealer that literally only had 2 cars in stock. GM gave me a crummy rental to get home with. The repair took 3 days. I wanted GM to bring the car up to me because it was a 9 hour round trip. GM refused to flatbed it or even DX the car. I had to take a day off work and pay for all of that gas in the rental to pick it up. This was when gas was about $4.50 a gallon. Cadillac refused to compensate me at all. That was when I knew that my relationship with that car would be brief. The little latino girl slamming in to the back of it with her Versa just sped up the seperation.

G&M Performance 08-09-2009 01:42 PM

I hope this problem is resolved for you rather quickly, man.

StLRedrider 08-09-2009 01:42 PM

sorry to here about the bad news fusz

Brazilbro 08-09-2009 01:48 PM

I had a weird thing happen to me yestereday, i was pulling out of a parking lot, got a little side ways . nothing to crazy and all the dash lights came on.. like the ABS ,BRAKE, everything.. i pull it out of gear and the SRM revs up to 4.5k and starts bounsing like thats the rev limiter then falls to 800rpm. I turn the car off and then back on and everythings normal:mad:

Not to defend the guy, but you do realize there are plenty of knocked over cones on courses to denote direction and "loading/parking" areas, right?

Bushguts 08-09-2009 06:43 PM

that means you have no more vtec

FuszNissan 08-09-2009 07:17 PM

I respect everyones opinion in here, but please keep on track. I should have some kind of update tomorrow afternoon.
