Another bonus of taking care of your car is the appreciation you will get from others. The only thing I'm really qualified to do is check fluids and belts and such, but even this gets me props from my neighbors and co-workers. When I get to work in the morning, I usually spend five minutes or so with the California Car Duster and sometimes pop the hood to check a few things, and I always throw a cover on top of the car (there's no parking garage, so it's out in the open); there have been at least ten people in my building whom I would otherwise never have talked to that have started off good conversations with "I love how you take care of your car!" or something similar.

Not the case. I just never *had* to check the oil between changes, because I knew the engine was built well enough to not leak or burn oil. I've done my own brakes, wheel bearings (even overtightened one and had it bust up a bearing), plug changes, and I'm about to replace the fuel filler neck on my truck, along with the injectors, fuel filter, and coil packs - tire rotations, etc... But, like I said, I've never had to check the oil between changes because the engines were tight enough to not burn oil. This car costs 3x what I paid for our civic new off the lot. I expected better...that is my point, and I think the point of others that have issue with this. |

This thread made go and look at my oil level and it is as it was when the oil was last changed (I always change the oil and filter on all my new cars and did so at 985 miles on the 370Z using the Nissan ester oil). I check my oil at every fill up, last thing I do after filling up and cleaning the windshield and rear window, it is not 15 minutes but a good 8-10 minutes.
As a past owner of a 2004 Vette I can say that mine did not burn any oil. Although I never reached triple digit high speeds I loved to accelerate fast out of every stop signal.

I am lost, I read the whole thing and I still dont understand how a new engine, with just over 3000miles will break the whole engine. Did you have any mods out of the extraordinary that may caused the problem. Cause it doesnt make sense to me

My last car, an E320 CDI has an oil change interval of 15,000 miles.
How many quarts did it burn in 15,000 miles? Couldn't even tell - the dipstick was still in the middle of the range. It's a turbo too. What separates a car that burns 1 quart every 2000 miles (mine just did - I had to refill it today) from a car that burns 0 quarts every 15,000 miles? * Engineering design * Manufacturing tolerances Nothing else needs to be said. There is no arguing about it, like you stated. It's a fact that one or both of the above factors was not a priority with the Z. I love my car, but the fact that it burns 1 quart of oil every 2000 miles, and this appears to be common, says something pretty profound about the engine either from a design or manufacturing (or both) perspective. |
