Are you a ROAD BULLY when driving your Z?

This one was tough for me. Long story short, I like to look out for people/other motorists when I drive my Z. I slow down for pedestrians and bicycles, and residential communities, blah blah blah.

I see how people avoid making contact with the Z like its contageous with an unknown strand of the herp :icon17:. So I use this to my advantage by making people wait while I let others pull into traffic, people cross the street, make careful turns in front of me (without being tailgated), etc.

Call me a nerd...I dont care. But I feel like a "good-guy bully" when I drive the Z and strongarm wreckless/inconsiderate drivers into waiting. I really dont feel regret when I get nasty looks because of it. Do you ever kinda "take over the road" in a good way in your Z?

shadoquad 08-13-2013 07:43 PM

You're a "crusader", and I don't mean that in a nice way.

I've done it some, and I've been bullied in such a way. Bottom line, it is itself a form of aggressive driving.

Or passive aggressive maybe?

XiP 08-13-2013 07:50 PM

I "take over the road" in all my vehicles due to road rage :/

usually when I leave the house i'm smiling and everything is fine and by the time i get to my destination im shaking and want to strangle something

cooltoy 08-13-2013 08:05 PM

I am a road bully in any vehicle. You snooze you lose.

Smugly throwing your car out to block someone is aggressive behavior, as is slowing down just to screw with the guy behind you. The defensive driver is not a road combatant. He or she just goes about their business without emotion.

And I have news for the OP, it's not just a Z that people don't want to hit. It's any car.

I wasn't trying to make it sound as though I target drivers just to be a jerk. My wording will be my undoing on this.:ugh2: I was referring to myself being a patient, considerate driver in response to seeing other individuals in the area. I have ZERO motivation to help drivers whom tailgate and aggressively/impatiently try to bogard their way around the road without consideration of others.

It gives me a feeling of accomplishment when I can let someone into the lane of traffic, or let bicycles cross the street, or allow someone time/space to enter/exit the parking lot. My "crusade" is not one out of hatred or anger. But one out of kindness. I guess having to walk around on foot during undergrad, and driving that Galant during grad school made me think, "why cant drivers be more caring?" So now I practice what I preach.

But hey, to each their own, man.

I got the impression you were going out of your way to inconvenience other motorists, not just driving defensively. That is my misunderstanding.

kfull 08-13-2013 10:57 PM

I'm pretty nice to most people. Although I have been in the habit lately of spraying people with my windshield fluid when they're tailgating me. They have to REALLY be on my *** though. If they come up close once I usually let it go, but multiple times and they get a spray.:happydance:

Tigger 08-13-2013 11:04 PM

I will be more than happy to accommodate those that might not be in a good spot but only if they are naturally stuck there. Even if I'm in a hurry. I drive fast as it is. Not aggressive fast, but just fast. Unless I get one of those "good doers" that tries to slow me down by cutting me off because I was at least doing the speed limit. When crap like that happens I go into a state of rage and then I will take over the road and only long enough to get past those people and to my destination. And no, I don't regret it when I do it. When people show their stupidity, getting around it is my only concern because stupidity kills and I don't want to be near them. It is a fair argument and one that has kept me out of accidents in the past. If it keeps you safe and won't interfere or cause others to lose focus then why not?

2xtreme1 08-14-2013 02:46 AM

I would consider myself passive-aggresive
I too, let pedestrians walk ex: the grocery store.
I let other cars merge into my lane etc .
I try to be generally nice when driving the Z.
I don't want to be known as the douche with the sports car, and especially since I'm 21 but look 16ish ..I don't want to look like an immature kid.

Zteve 08-14-2013 06:34 AM

not at all. i am too busy trying to avoid the other idiots that think my car is a target or teenagers in their beat up honduhs with fart can exhausts thinking a stoplight is for racing

JARblue 08-14-2013 06:59 AM

I enjoy being polite while driving - letting other people merge, giving pedestrians the right of way, yielding to people turning in front of me in traffic. However, I have to balance that with my hate of people who don't pay attention to their driving or others around them and my habit of driving 10 mph over the speed limit.

If you're driving too timidly, I'm probably not going to stop to let you pull out in front of me.
If you're driving like an a$$hat in traffic, I'm probably not going to make the effort to get out of your way (I probably want to drive faster than you anyway).

I will make aggressive maneuvers when I have plenty of room to put distance between myself and other idiot drivers who I'm not interested in being behind, adjacent to, or anywhere near (like if I see you on a fucking cell phone). My goal on the highway is typically to find a big gap in the traffic and set cruise control. I drive the side streets a lot during my daily commute to avoid traffic as much as possible.

DIGItonium 08-14-2013 07:54 AM

Just don't drive <= 50 MPH on the left lane of a 65 MPH freeway on a beautiful dry sunny day when everyone's on their way to work. ;)

Well, that's what I saw this morning. I switched over and drove past her, and she switched over and continued driving no more than 50 MPH slowing a bunch of people down on the right lane. Imagine the urge to bully such driver haha.

I used to try to be polite, but no one returns the favors, so I've given up. If you want to merge and you're not up to speed: **** you. You wait until the lane is ending to merge: **** you. If traffic is moving slow and you want over, because you think MY lane is moving faster (which it isn't): **** you.

   I hate traffic anymore. I hate driving, unless I can at least go 70mph.

yes!!!!

and people who drive in the passing lane... that aren't passing, or are going slower than the lanes to their right, or that keep a gigantic distance between them and the vehicle in front of them

also i don't get why people feel the need to change lanes immediately at a freeway merger... all that does is cause traffic to pile up. it's already going to go slower because of the merger but people trying to swap lanes doesn't help. maybe go like a quarter mile further before trying to change lanes? :ugh2:

my list can go on and on
lots of little things that cause traffic inefficiencies...

Where I get on the freeway we have to do this, because the two (of five) lanes there lead to the exit to the 17, so we have to merge two lanes fairly quickly in order to get onto the 10. :shakes head:

It's a giant cluster-****. You have people entering the freeway wanting to get onto the 10 and people on the 10 wanting to merge over into the people entering the freeway so they can get to the 17.

and accidents. people drive slow thinking they are driving safe. people behind the f-king idiot gets pissed and do all sorts of manuvers to try to pass him/her potentially causing an accident.

there should be a minimum limit of 0mph under speed limit unless residential area or at night, weather conditions.

damian_mb 08-14-2013 09:43 AM

Knock on wood but cars don;t tailgate me when i drive my Z...they must think, that looks like an expensive car....my ins bill would sky rocket if I touched it. :)

My beater on the other hand.....even going 10 above speed limit I get tailgated

kenchan 08-14-2013 09:45 AM

yah really. i drive a honda fit to work. people think im poor. lol (ok i am)

jburke26 08-14-2013 09:47 AM

oh this is getting good! Don't get me started on the idiots that drive uhauls..

Haboob 08-14-2013 09:49 AM

I get tailgated all the time, it's annoying.

I'd like to brake-check them, but I know better.

olddudesrule 08-14-2013 09:55 AM

I buy cars like the Z because I love to drive. I love being behind the wheel of capable sports car, and besides driving defensively most times, I try not to give a f*#k what everyone else is doing. I've wasted far too much energy "hating" on the roadway, and I really try not to get wrapped around the axle any longer about asshat drivers. They will always be there, and for me, it's just a detrimental waste of time to keep getting angry about it.....

Now if I could just get my legs out of this lotus position.....

No need to brake-check them. Downshift a gear or two and let the car engine brake. Keep an eye in the rear view mirror and as soon as you see their nose dip when they brake, punch it to create some distance (don't think I've ever had to do this more than twice to get my point across). I use this method very successfully to get people off my a$$. It is typically a big truck who I know has no problem seeing past me and that I can't go anywhere due to cars in front of me. I have also used this method to make a gap and give someone in the adjacent lane an opportunity to get over behind me, thus protecting me from the tailgating idiot.

ElVee 08-14-2013 10:11 AM

I'm a very considerate and risk-averse driver.

Until I see someone else being an idiot/bully/overreacting. Then I happily give it right back to them. Oh, you wanted this lane to be quick? Sorry, poor choice. Can't figure out how to use your turn signal because you're on the phone and smoking while driving? Yeah, you can wait behind me. Do I make it painfully obvious that I'm slamming on the gas to not let them pass me on a 4-lane road because they're impatient? No, I make it look as covert as possible, and I usually don't keep it up if they persist and lane change constantly behind me. I don't drive illegally or recklessly even when being a bully that way.

It's not very karmic, but I only give it to those who give it out themselves. To everyone else, I'll accommodate them. Almost all of my life pet peeves are regarding poor drivers and the poor choices they make.

(The one exception being when I'm near my home and work neighborhood. I am not a **** to anyone who can find where I live or park my car. :) )

kidkotic2001 08-14-2013 10:12 AM

I would not call it aggressive driving, bully driving, or passive aggressive. I see it as if you are not first then you are last.

I will smash on you if you’re not on top of your clutch game at the light.
Pedestrians don’t get the right of way.
If you’re in the fast lane doing 65mph I will cut you off with no blinker.
If you’re a bicyclist thinking you’re a car I will crowd the plate.
If your merging on the freeway at 35mph I will go around you before you get a chance to merge.
I’m a honker. I will honk at you if you’re a threat to my Z.
At a four way stop. If two people are hesitating to go because they want to be Mr. Nice guy. I will snake your turns.
18 wheelers hauling dirt with no tarp, Cars/Trucks spewing black smoke due to maintenance issues get no respect.
I have come to realize that after being in a couple of quick/fast cars I have no patience for others.
I don’t consider myself a road bully but an aggressive drive when in aggressive cars.

I do believe in car karma. Meaning if I don’t let others merge in the time of need. My day will come when I need to and I will miss my exit. There are rules to this though. If we are going at a steady pace and you want me to slow down to let you in knowing your car has power and you’re not willing to use it. You aren’t getting in. Unless you are in a slower car of course. I make way for motorcycles.

yah, we too have old too. long time ago i use to call 9am-11am "geezer hour" and while a lot were slow, they didn't really get in my way. so often times i took the morning off work to play with my cars.

but the current generation of geezers that are out and about are geezer-losers (with big emphasis on loser). so i decided to call 9am-11am "loser hour". :ugh2: and lately haven't taken a day off just to motor my cars because these losers do not get out of my way and just putt along for miles under the speed limit.

the sacrifice and tolerance we must have for losers. :shakes head:

Not sure that would work here in the States. Seems like unlawful seizure, as road rage isn't a crime. If he hits someone with the car, then yes, that's a crime, but yelling at people, etc. isn't.

Edit: I guess it says he did try to force someone off the road. The rest was TL;DR.

NissanGuy23 08-14-2013 11:50 AM

This weekend the bikers (pedal bikes) were really pissing me off. I was driving on some backroads for fun on Sunday, and the roads arnt that wide, without bikers, it can be tight getting the Z through when there is an SUV coming the other way. When you ad bikers, its flat out dangerous. You need to pass them quick before you get into a head on, and you cant see who's coming because of all the turns. And many times, the bikers are in the middle of the lane (not off to the right) and don't get over to the right when i come up on them, like they own the road. It was really starting to irritate me. They act like they own the road and I'm in their way.
