I typically do what is necessary to make space between myself and other drivers. Sometimes I accelerate, sometimes I brake, sometimes I go into slalom mode. I can usually influence the other drivers behavior with my presence and by simply doing little things. If I speed up to 2-3 mph faster then the next guy he will try to not let me pass or take off like a bat out of hell thinking it suddenly turned into a race. One thing that gets my temperature up is something we run into here in NM is what a lot of people call a Mexican road block. It's where drivers in each lane refuse to pass one another and block up the entire road. I've seen it where 6 lanes of the freeway were blocked. It causes a chain reaction in traffic where people are at a dead stop 2 miles back and everyone thinks there was an accident. As far as bullying goes - this is the wild west baby, don't write a check that your a$$ can't deliver...

In my 300ZXtt I could sneak up on bikes (without trying) and startle them with an engine rev.

With the 370 and it's loudness, this has never happened.

Sharing the Road (FFDL 37) - Safety Tips for Bicyclists and Motorists

Cyclists can definitely be idiots and inconsiderate when they're on the road, but so can automobile drivers. My post was to hopefully inform 370Z forum members that the pendulum in the criminal & civil courts have swung in favor of the pedestrian/bicyclist and to share the road.

Hope the above link works as you'll see the California and Hawaii laws do not differ much. Bicyclist have a right to the road as much as a car. If the lane is large, the cyclist should ride to the right, if it's small they don't have too. Question is, what's a large lane and what's a small lane (most of the lanes in Hawaii are small, thus they can ride in the center), plus how far right to the curb is right? Just be patient and considerate out there.

The DMV is not a great legal source and neither is the CHP. I think both places state that tint on the front windows is illegal when there are applications where it is perfectly legal.

But back to cyclists. That's good to know about the courts. Here's the law:

Quote:

21202. (a) Any person operating a bicycle upon a roadway at a speed
less than the normal speed of traffic moving in the same direction
at that time shall ride as close as practicable to the right-hand
curb or edge of the roadway
except under any of the following
situations:

(1) When overtaking and passing another bicycle or vehicle
proceeding in the same direction.
(2) When preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a
private road or driveway.
(3) When reasonably necessary to avoid conditions (including, but
not limited to, fixed or moving objects, vehicles, bicycles,
pedestrians, animals, surface hazards, or substandard width lanes)
that make it unsafe to continue along the right-hand curb or edge,
subject to the provisions of Section 21656. For purposes of this
section, a "substandard width lane" is a lane that is too narrow for
a bicycle and a vehicle to travel safely side by side within the
lane.
(4) When approaching a place where a right turn is authorized.
(b) Any person operating a bicycle upon a roadway of a highway,
which highway carries traffic in one direction only and has two or
more marked traffic lanes, may ride as near the left-hand curb or
edge of that roadway as practicable.
CA Codes (veh:21200-21212)

Fact is these bicyclists that ride side by side or in big packs are breaking the law.

I'm going to start jogging in the bike lane to give them a dose of their own medicine.

If you're driving too timidly, I'm probably not going to stop to let you pull out in front of me.
If you're driving like an a$$hat in traffic, I'm probably not going to make the effort to get out of your way (I probably want to drive faster than you anyway).

I will make aggressive maneuvers when I have plenty of room to put distance between myself and other idiot drivers who I'm not interested in being behind, adjacent to, or anywhere near (like if I see you on a fucking cell phone). My goal on the highway is typically to find a big gap in the traffic and set cruise control. I drive the side streets a lot during my daily commute to avoid traffic as much as possible.

Well, that's what I saw this morning. I switched over and drove past her, and she switched over and continued driving no more than 50 MPH slowing a bunch of people down on the right lane. Imagine the urge to bully such driver haha.

People who drive in the left lane like that makes me rage the most!:driving::mad:

Usually I'll hug the line on the drivers side to prevent any of that when I'm in Cali.

It's the most retarded "legal" thing there.

how would it not help with congestion?

if there are 18k motorcyclists in LA and lane splitting was not legal
would you want 18k more vehicles out on the roads as opposed to having them lane split their way off so they are out of the way and they can get home faster and there are less vehicles out on the road to prevent you from getting from where you need to be? and congestion is not the only reason why it became legal, it was also proven in studies that lane splitting prevents accidents regarding motorcyclists and distracted drivers and deaths of motorcyclists went down since lane splitting became legal

im sorry if this comes off as offensive but if you were paying attention to the roads and checking your mirrors, you would not be startled by motorcyclists lane splitting and what you're doing is in fact illegal(its called impeding traffic)

honestly you sound like one of those ignorant cagers who hate the fact that motorcyclists can just pass you while you're stuck in traffic sitting there

1_Stealth_Z 08-18-2013 10:13 PM

Well it depends on how much gas I have or what kind of mood im in...sometimes im the nice guy, I let other cars out and let people in front of me but then on some days im like eff you and eff you and don't you dare pull out in front of me.

Elan 08-19-2013 01:15 AM

I've learned that if you drive a nice car, you have to be extra nice no matter what because people do stupid things to you and your car because they know we care a little more. To avoid keying, quartering, and brake checking, I don't flip the bird or honk in aggression (unless my safety is as risk).

Generally I'm a nice drive. If your turn signal comes on, I slow down to let you in. If you're overtaking me, I move over. I like being a nice driver because for all I know, I just made someone's day who has been having a rough one. It makes me feel better and it's safer to be less aggressive. I will say that if you ride slow in the fast lane, I will pass you and cut it close with no turn signal to let ya know that you need to move over. Just my .02

nmjaxx9 08-19-2013 11:38 AM

LMFAO.

I bully people only when they ride on my tail. Some people just dont learn their lesson. Sometimes I wanna ask do you have some serious mental issues when people do that. You are a lost cause. :bowrofl:

ShutokuZ 08-19-2013 05:01 PM

I cannot stand the drivers in the area I live. Here in Marina del Rey/Venice/Santa Monica most of the drivers act like they are entitled to drive how they want, and own the road. Nothing but self involved, self absorbed idiots. Most of the time it seems to be Priuses that think their car is blazingly fast, and act as such. That, and women who think they own the roads in their Mercs and drive down the center of the lines. Oh, and don't get me started on the ones that cut you off, then throw their arms in the air like WTF! How are you going to cut me off, then act like I did something wrong!

Ive lived all over Florida and by far HERE is the worst Ive ever seen. WE have a HUUUUUGE foreign population here and they cant drive for ****! If its 45 they do 30 or 35 everywhere they go. They will pull out in front of you while your doing 50 and do 30 then slam on brake and do 25 or turn into another street. They will pull out and cross all 3 lanes of traffic really quick just to turn into a shopping complex meanwhile everyone else comes to a stop because they have to get in there! Ive seen them sit at left green lights and we get the arrow, they turn their right blinker on and just sit there and NO ONE can turn left then! I see that one all the time!!! grrr. I just blow their doors off and flick em off no matter which car im driving. Ive gone around them in the grass or passed double yellow lines etc. I just dont get it, they come here and have NO clue how to drive or follow the rules. No where else have I ever seen it this bad and ive done LOTS of driving in my time. I could go ON and ON, my wife has road rage now since moving here and shes does EXACTLY the speed limit wherever she goes and they make her look like a speed demon. Ive also seen more accidents here than any city ive ever lived in Florida Eva!!!! I better stop now, just liek they do at ALL RR tracks....ugggh /facepalm. complete stops!!!!!

Rant ending FOR NOW.....hahaha

In New York you get this times 10! I never had road rage issues until i got my Z. But this car has made me a MUCH better driver due to clowns. I see clearly every action going on around my vehicle. I know what a clown is going to do before it does it. But here in NY you will see something that catches you off guard every now and then. Full coverage is worth it in a Z in NY..LOL:driving:

Nailzs 09-02-2013 05:24 PM

I'm generally NOT a bully, BUT, last week driving home an idiot driving an Infinity SUV passed me in the left lane of a 3 lane interstate highway as I was overtaking a slower car, cuts in front of me and decided the alignment of the planets made it the correct time to wash his windshield which splattered my clean car than sped off. I don't subscribe to being annoyed while driving my Z, but I made an exception this one time and increased my speed to overtake the speeding SUV and returned the window wash the SUV lost. :shakes head:

Mr&Mrs 09-02-2013 06:26 PM

I blame cell phones and make up for most of my road rage. My wife and I like to glance into every car we pass to see what the driver is up to. 70% are texting or trying to dial a number on their phone. I have almost perfected a way to guess this as well, they start slowing down for no apparent reason. They think letting their foot off of the gas pedal makes it safer I guess. That or they are to f’ing stupid to do both. Any time early morning on work days I would say 20-30 cars I pass there is a female putting on makeup while driving. People that inch forward at lights make me want to go tasmanian devil in my car also, especially when it cause the person behind me to end up inches from my rear bumper. THE LIGHT IS RED YOUR NOT GOING ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!

Im curious and joked about getting a blood pressure cuff to check before I leave my home and when I arrive at my destination. Im to the point that I think driving is bad for my health. As far as the bully part I can be at times but for the most part I just get super angry and keep it to myself and my wife lol.

ok but what they are doing is illegal but again if you are paying attention, you will notice them approaching you at a fast rate of speed in your rear view mirror way before they get anywhere near you

what i really dont like is the ignorance behind lane splitting laws and the emotion behind them as well(i cant tell you how many times i have seen people get pissed that a motorcyclist passed them up in traffic because it isnt "fair", heck you dont see people whine about 1000hp cars street racing at 200+mph on the highways and that imo is much more of a danger than some squid looking to get himself killed while riding his sport bike

back to what my reply was saying though, you cant tell me that is someone who is splitting lanes in traffic at 10mph assuming you're completely stopped(legally they can only go 10 above traffic flow until it is no longer considered safe by a LEO) has startled you for any reason other than being a typical cager and not paying attention and on top of that, it is safer for the motorcyclists to be lane splitting in traffic than it is for them to just be sitting there behind a car where a distracted driver will not see them

The problem I run into when driving to work is that right lane slow is literally 50-60 MPH in a 65 MPH zone.

It's so annoying when I'm 1/2 mile away from the next exit that it's not worth passing the vehicle up front.

coolvans1988 09-04-2013 02:13 PM

living near colleges/public school/freeway enterances sucks.
Especially when having to be at work at 8am. Some people are slow and some
are crappy drivers that are driving fast and cutting people. I've been tailgated
several times, but i sometimes enjoy doing the engine break on them and see their
impression on my rear view mirror. When they change lane to have a chance to cut me, i just press on the gas to even out with the car next to my lane to make it impossible for the tailgater.

I've noticed that sometimes Under heavy traffic the far right (slow) lane, ends up being faster because everyone tries heading to the faster lanes causing more traffic to build up on that side. Ive actually cut through a lot of traffic by just driving on the furthest lane to the right.. doesn't always work though lol

TheGreatOne 09-04-2013 02:40 PM

I like rolling back on people who are up my tail when I'm on a hill. I guess people who don't drive manual and have only been exposed to a Chevy Malibu don't think of these things so can't completely fault them I guess.

I'd say most of the time I am given the right of way and I like letting people in, I just hate not getting a nod or acknowledgement especially when they know 8 other people pretty much said "no way" and I let them in

Outside of that...I used to be bad and would be up your azz in the left lane but now I'll sit in the middle lane and let people go by...unless I really got somewhere to be lol.
