Default Question about flywheel...

I'm about to upgrade my clutch and I'm just curious if getting a light weight fly wheel is worth it. Through the research I've done, I've learned that it may reduce driveability on a daily driver and I'm wondering if this is the case on our cars and if so or if not what is the best flywheel to go with on a daily driver. I am boosted and pushing the 500whp mark so what gains can I expect to see? Thanks for the help.

It'll rev faster. It'll also be loud and stall out much easier. It's a mixed bag.

I wouldn't muck with it. You should already spool the motor up with no problem, why would you want less drive-ability

that's kinda what I was thinkin but im more curious about the gains and im not too enthused about the extra noise either but im just checkin to see what other people are saying and get advice from people that have a lightened flywheel.

Yeah you'll gain a few horse, but would you be able to put it on the ground. I'm sure you can spark the tires pretty good anytime right now If so, that is really power you can't use.

It's not really a power thing. It just makes the motor more responsive. I love mine, but there are drawbacks.

This is the set-up I got from ZSpeed and what I paid. The flywheel is about 10 lbs lighter and seems to have no drivability issues at all.

I got the same kit. I daily drive mine all year and the only thing I notice is a bit of chatter if I take off in second at a low rpm. I do like the faster engine response.

I never take off in second but I do hear a little chatter if I don't have enough R's taking off in 1st. As far as the engine response...I don't notice anything. To me the car is slow. I'm not complaining because I knew this when I bought the car, I just wish my MHI kit would get here before I go nuts.

T=I*alpha

If you can determine the moment of inertia difference between the two flywheels then the increased torque during acceleration can be calculated quite easily.

Basically, it helps most in first gear and the influence decreases as you vehicle gets to higher speed.

Sorry, I realize forums and (actual) physics don't mix well.

In that case, it will be hella tight, yo!

Hella tight...that's what im goin for lol. If the gains aren't that noticeable then I really not that worried about it other than being able to say "yea I got a light weight flywheel" and when people ask why I can be like
