To the OP, test drive an auto with srm.

I think I :stirthepot:

Sorry OP, your thread is now a classic bashing of 7AT vs M6

I think while the Z manual fulfills the habitual void of needing to drive the manual.
The auto in manual mode actually provides the performance expectations you'd exprect from the manual without the clutch.
While manual is the rush to gearbox for most enthusiasts... From my test drives of the manual, I think Nissan got it backward on the Z. The auto responds better. :tiphat:

But you can always try mustangs solution as well

:tiphat: very good review on both or the reasons for each transmission

OP, if you DIE for the manual, do what Mr. Mustang said at the dealership.
The only thing I have heard without the clutch spring or even with the softer one is that the pedal jiggles around a bit and doesn't stay in the same place. M6 people can confirm since I drive the more superior 7AT :nutswinger:

Yeah, it does wiggle a bit on the first inch or so of travel with the spring gone. Not really a big deal at all.

Yeah, I would say a little bit of play for maybe the first half inch of travel. It feels exactly like my S2000 did in that regard... bit of play up top, but great feel.

Stock, yes. Helper spring removed... no.

Chuck33079 06-25-2013 09:03 AM

Far from the worst. It's just clunky. It holds power just fine. The clutch feel is easily fixed. And I thought we all had an agreement about quoting JungleTard.

Baradar-e man.
We know you hate the car, hate the transmission, hate Nissan, and how you wish you had bought something else, no need to jump in on EVERY thread and mention how shìt your car is... Know that YOU leased your car. It IS a lease, so you will leave it. And you can lease it out on lease trader and such.
It's why you get responses like:

And as much as you're a member of the clan, I am starting to agree

Yep. Most MTs capable of handling some power are clunky to some degree.

Once you remove the helper spring the 6MT feels nice and is on par with all of the other manual transmissions in similarly priced sports cars.

Chuck33079 06-25-2013 09:18 AM

I'd rather have a clunky transmission that can take some power and abuse than a silky smooth one that explodes when you give it more power than stock.

I would love to drive a z with this helper spring removed. All I know is after driving integras preludes m3"s s2000. This manual is so sloppy . Will a heavier shift knob help any?
