Warm Up / Oil Temp Gauge

So I noticed that the 370Z had an oil temperature gauage. My question is, is it smart to warm up your vehicle before you drive? If so, what is the right oil temperature before you start hitting the gas?

I used to warm up my cars for about at least a minute before I drove it. Now I'm just too damn lazy or running late so I just drive right away. I haven't noticed anything bad happen.

you live in a warm place so warm up is not the important although it is good for the engine. But in cold weather climats a warm up and a block heater are a must/

i usually start the car and go, but refrain from spirited driving until the car is warmed up...sort of like how it works on the m3 where you can't rev all the way up until its warm

It's freaking 25 degrees out! Yes that's below freezing. I always warm up my car. If I am running a little late, then I would keep the RPMs below 3K until the engine warms up.

What about oil temperature? What is normal oil temperature for a car that is fully warmed up? I've never had an oil temperature gauage so I don't know.

When I start my car up the RPMs jump to like 2,000rpm and hold there for a few seconds. After about 30sec or so, they come down to about 1,000rpm. I usually wait till it does this to start driving.

in the summer time, it's not really necessary to do so.....but when it gets a bit cold...warming up is good !!...it will actually save you some gas if you use the block heater... letting it warm up will warm up the oil, all the valves and the catalytic converter...which needs a certain temp before it actually cleans the emissions.

the rpm gauge would read higher on my 05 sti on really cold start-ups.

regardless of the weather, i always drove the car gently until it was warmed up...

i don't think it's necessary to let the car idle for more than 15-30 seconds when the motor is cold...just don't drive the car hard until it is fully warmed up.
