the recessed area will cup the little bump on the bottom of the car where the jack point is to hold in place. i suggest you take a look under the car with a mirror tool or drag your hand along the jack point area to see/feel what im talking about.

i think putting weight on just one side of the V shape holder of the jack is dangerous.

I'm 41 years old & bought my first jack today! Got the Arcan from Costco. Now I need to get me some jack stands. Probably won't the the HF ones. HF is great for stuff you're going to use once and / or doesn't endanger your life. I'll spend a few extra $$ and get something non HF. The Griot's garage ones are sexy, but I'd have to sell the car to be able to afford them.

griot's stuff is usually just a rebadge. you can find the same thing cheaper online if you do some research. :)

Strange, most people I talk to rate HF pretty high and recommend them. Also, the HF Jack/stands are not made by HF FYI.

Was just there a couple days ago gettin' me some nitrile gloves. But my nitrile gloves don't have to support 3,000 lbs. of car above me.

Yeah, a lot of it you can get at HF. My can racks from Griot's and my can racks from HF are exactly the same except for the Griot's sticker and $15 ea.

But ya got to admit the jack stands are sexy...

Then I move to the back and jack the car up at the diff, then place a jack stand on each side of the rear. Is there any issue doing it this way?

I had to put my Z on jack stands yesterday to remove the wheels and that's how I did it. My floor jack won't reach the front jack point on the cross-beam. If I raise the car on ramps enough to get it under, there's still not enough clearance to work the handle. So I used the car's e-jack on one front side, then the other. At its max extension I can slide an 11 inch tall jack stand with slotted hockey puck under the notched point on the pinch seam. With the front on stands, I go to the back and used the floor jack under the differential to lift the rear enough to get the jack stands under the rear.

The hockey puck idea I got from these forums works great. Hockey pucks are cheap, a couple of bucks each, and are easily slotted for the pinch seam using a radial arm saw. Someone mentioned putting some magnets to hold them...that's clever too. I found some 1/2 inch diameter neodymium magnets on Amazon...just drilled a hole in the puck off-center and epoxied them in. I'll take them in with me when I get my oil changed or if the car needs to go on a 4-point lift for any other reason.

I found a magnetic pinch rail adapter online. The website is zl1addons.com. I just placed it on the pinch rail at the front jacking point, and my floor jack lifted the whole side of the car. Didn't even scratch the paint on the pinch rail.

That's their "Universal" model, right? Do the bottoms of the pads come out lower than the bodywork for sure? Or can you snap a pic of one installed, from the side, showing the clearance? These look like they would be awesome for use with my low-rise lift :) BTW, I found them on Amazon, too: ZL1 Addons 2640 Pinch Weld Universal Magnetic Jack Pads - Set of 4 : Amazon.com : Automotive

dang, you guys are high tech. i just use a piece of oak about the size of a kamaboko wood and just place it on my hydraulic' platform. the wood pushes up on the slight hump inside the pinch rail.

you guys are like wtf is kamoboko wood? :icon08:
lol, id show you a pict but too late! all deleted

It is the universal. I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon but ordered this from ZL1ADDONS. The owner shipped the universal to me to try. He said, if I liked it, to pay through paypal. If not, just send it back. Excellent customer service.
