Good times do not come from smoking the tyres. All this does is ruin your tyres and put undue stress on your components. Why would someone want to do this to their car?

Uhh are there no teen agers in Australia? Every time I go out with my friends under 30 all they want to do is get the rear end loose and light 'em up. More money than brains I say ;)

I just do it because i love the smell of burnt rubber...and its just good ol' fun

I think everyone should be able to at least once, just to say they have, or to impress chicks lol Just make sure when your attempting the latter, it's not your first time and you F*** it up lol. All you'll get then is :bowrofl:

I like it when you smoke the tires enough to get in the car and fill the street from one side to another. The smell is intoxicating like when your at the winternationals in pomona, but it comes with a expensive price tag you don't need to be a teenager to enjoy an occasional burnout. WARNING DO NOT SMOKE THE TIRES IF THERE'S A COP BEHIND YOU!

I think you mean brake stand.

What is this, high school? The only people I know who want to "burn out" are kids who are trying to impress some girl with their dad's car. Losing traction is a negative, not a positive. If you want to burn out, go buy an old Crown Victoria and put a blower on it. You'll look really cool as you crash it into a tree.

Losing traction has its advantages at times, especially in tight cornering when you want to drift more than steer to make the tight radius (think U-turn without 3 lanes of space to do it in, for example). It's also a valid technique at the drag strip. If you're running slicks, you roll through the waterbox and do a full burnout to warm them up. If you're running street tires, you skip the water box and do a mini-burnout (anything more is just wasting rubber) to clean the surface of the tires off.

I'm not a fan of high-school kids doing burnouts and donuts in the street either, but it's not right to say that loss of traction has no place in serious driving.

I'm just referring to what I think of as the typical burnout... flooring the car from a dead stop. My experience in cars I've owned has been that the better cars (911 and 370Z) barely lose any traction at all even when floored. My 70s Z-28 (and numerous front-heavy land shark grandma mobiles I've driven), on the other hand, would burn out at the drop of a hat... the problem is, they didn't have any forward momentum while doing so.

Mom, is that you? Why are you on this site? Geez, leave me alone!!

Just kidding with you.

For me, it's not the fact that I want to do some idiotic tire smoking, it's that I hate cars that intervene in my driving. The first thing I do when I get in my 335 is turn off the traction control. I want to control how much wheelspin I get either from a standing start or coming out of slow corner.

If it doesn't get much wheelspin due to it being a great chassis and a great setup then that's great (my old 968 was a perfect example), I just don't want engine power reduced because my cars "nanny" thinks that I need some type of help to control a car.

I absolutely hate traction control. I grew up driving muscle cars and learned how to control a car without help from a computer.

And furthermore if someone is paying for their own car and their own tires and if they want to go melt them down by doing some tire smoking burnout then I say go for it if you don't have the potential to hurt someone. It's a free country do what you want. Or at least it used to be a free country.

Smoke'em if you got'em boys! Before Obama makes it illegal.
