What happens to old "new" Z's at a dealer?
Soon-to-be 370Z owner here with a general question. Most of the Nissan dealers in my area (St. Louis) still have 2012’s on their lot. I’m sure they will be very motivated to move these out before the 2014’s arrive. Does anyone know what dealers typically do with older “new” cars like this if they are not sold? Would they go to an auction house?
I’m trying to decide whether to bargain with a dealer now or try to buy one even cheaper later on. |

Bought my '09 new end of November '09, as the 10's were coming out. Bought it way below dealer cost. Hang tough. Z's are not easy to sell and you can do well if you play your cards right.

Do some research and come up with a low price that you would pay for it. Then go in and stick to that price. Start a little lower than your target price then come up to what you want to pay. Your biggest advantage over the dealer is the fact that you are willing to walk out if they don't meet your exact price. You might get a great deal!

Most cars under 60k on the east coast dealers will keep them until they are sold and discount them until sold, depending on the car and market for it.
On the west coast 100k is still considered low mileage and you will see a lot of dealers holding on to high mileage trades trying to get as much as they can for it. |

They stay in their lot until sold or picked up by another dealer on a dealer trade. Someone eventually buys it. Price is reduced via mfr incentives. You should use that as leverage.

I looked up the KBB trade in value, lets say as an "OOOOHHHHH SHIIITTTT" and you had to get rid of it, it was around $31k, and the dealer said they couldn't budge because they were out like $5k+ on each car not to mention loss of time on the lot... Even though you buy it as new, and your warranty starts from THAT day, you'll be starting a loss. In my situation I would've been at an extra $3000 loss... I don't know about you, but $3000 buys me THE BEST 8 year 120k (or whatever it is) warranty AND if I do oil changes myself, 62,500 miles of oil changes... Good luck!

FWIW: On KBB, it looks like the trend is that you lose $2k per extra year
