Differential 80w90 vs 75w90

I've noticed a lot of people on here use 75w90 in their differential but my owner's manual says to use 80w90. Any particular reason why? I was about to order some Red Line 75w90 when I noticed this.

It has my vote. The difference in viscosity and performance will be negligible. Ie, for all intents and purposes 75W90 and 80W90 are interchangeable. At least for a DD; if you are tracking the car, it might make a little bit of difference.
The type of oil and the additives will make much more difference in performance than a few viscosity points (especially since, as DE.50 points out, once they warm up, they have the same viscosity).

Why? Aftermarket LSD? I've found Redline 75w90 does the job on the track in Texas heat so I'll stick with it. 110 takes away power and doesn't appear to be needed with the stock VLSD.

I autox my car more than the track, the one wheel burnout seems to break down the diff fluid quite quickly. I am doing it hoping the 110 can last longer

Doesn't 75w90 void your warranty? I wouldn't want any grief from a dealer when I bring in my own fluids...

As long as it meets specs (any high-quality diff lube will), it won't void the warranty. If the dealer gives you any static about it, go to another dealer.

Same with all other lubes/fluids/tires/&c - if it meets Nissan's specs (for lubes, this is usually an API or other standards organization rating), they can't void the warranty.
