What was your second choice?

Used Lotus Elise. Just found it a bit too harsh for road use though it is an amazing track vehicle.

I went just the other way. Had a deal done on the Z and my wife told me to go test drive the Elise.

Ended up cancelling the Z and getting the Elise... Drive it everyday and no regrets...

There is no local Infiniti dealer or I would have considered the G37.

I was really really close to picking up an RX 8 but it was too much like my old car and I decided I needed something new so the Z won.

I owned an RX-8 for about 3 years (bought first model year). Incredible handler but no torque. The most fun thing about the RX-8 was "shifting on the beep" The thing revs so fast that they give you an audible warning that you are approaching redline (at 9,000 rpm). The back seats are actually useable for full-size adults, and the thing handles like a dream on winding, bumpy, narrow Connecticut roads. But the downsides were no torque without winding it out, abysmal gas mileage, difficult starting in winter, poor paint quality, and after three years stuff started to break.

OTOH, you could take it to the track every weekend and drive the crap out of it without worrying about engine overheating...

The Z outguns the RX-8 in everyday use, but needs some mods before it is happy at the track. I'm certainly not sorry I bought it!

I traded my 07 350z HR for turbo power. Still might have to pick up one of these with the new 7 speed auto. I live in the Ozark mountains and that would be just the ticket.

my second choice was a 1994 White FD in the best condition ever. The engine was rebuilt and streetported by jrx rotary, and the stock paint isn't discolored because it was a garaged car. sighhh D:

but im still excited for the Z!

Took a few looks at an 09 STI. But I was currently driving a WRX and wanted something a bit different. What I wanted was a sports car, not a rally car. Two seats, RWD, solid power...thats it, couldnt be happier.

What is surprising here is how many people were considering domestic autos. Not that its a bad thing, just wierd cause normally people stick to one side or the other when it comes down to cars.

That is surprising to me too. But I think that the Z is more of an "everyman" sort of car, in a Bruce Springsteen or Sugar Ray kind of way. Punching out of its weight class, but making power in a good old fashioned brutish way. Not one of those elitist twiddly little foreign jobs. Just IMHO

I wanted a Cayman in the worst way. I loved the ones I drove and up until I drove the Z, I was saving my pennies to buy one in a couple of years. But I found the Z so visceral and immediate and fun that I just couldn't resist. Sure the Porsche was a lot more refined, and probably holds its value better yada yada yada.

But I found the Z just plain more fun.

What about you?
There is no second choice. What "pushed" me over the line is that Nissan just plain makes the Z a good all around sport car at an exceptionally affordable price. They have a good understanding about engine design and tuning and they really don't spare the tuning of the engine for their cars as opposed to the American Big-3 that tend to severely under-tune their engines.

The fact that Nissan can easily get 330 BHP out of a 6-pack 3.7L engine compared to Ford's struggle to make 315 BHP out of an 8-pack 4.6L engine kinda says it all in terms of the more knowledgeable car manufacturer.

'nuff said

I was looking for about 8-10 months at different 2002-03 Acura NSX's. i wanted the model with the updated exterior changes. I found some at a reasonable price, not much higher than what i paid, but i didnt want to have a slightly higher payment that i have now and zero warranty. i have a 6 year warranty and will be covered past the payoff date with free oil changes and my tires are covered, i think i did alright.
