Most Stupid Thing Heard From a Nissan Dealer

While shopping around for my Z, I heard numerous stupid things said from salesman at Nissan dealers who you would think knew something about the Z. So I thought it would be fun start a thread to hear what other members heard that were idiotic statements made at a Nissan dealership. One of my favorites was when I was negotiating a deal for my CY 370Z. The 2 salesman I was sitting down with both asked me if I knew what was the name of the yellow. They said no one at the dealership knew but guessed it might be Canary or Lemon. I knew that it was Chicane Yellow. They were all so amazed I knew it. I'm amazed that nobody THERE knew it! Care to add your favorite?

DEpointfive0 02-27-2013 01:52 PM

We have a gorgeous 2008 370Z here, come check it out!

I made them go look for it, and tell me what options it had, hoping they'd figure it out that it wasn't a 370Z... They still said it was...

dP3NGU1N 02-27-2013 01:59 PM

Me: Is this with or without the sport package?
Him: It isn't
Me: But it has the sport package wheels.
Him: All of them have the same wheels.
Me: (getting into the car) It also has SRM...
Him: Let me go ask my manager
Me: Can you also ask him to get me a new sales person.
Him: ......... :(
Me: Thanks.

While waiting for the finance guy, our salesperson was giving us brief descriptions of some of the packages we could buy and he mentioned that pre-paid oil changes would include tire rotations for free so that I could save money on tire rotations.

kenchan 02-27-2013 02:05 PM

window etching is a great way to save on insurance.

2xtreme1 02-27-2013 02:13 PM

Lmao !
Yea most of them don't know anything about the car

DEpointfive0 02-27-2013 02:18 PM

Another one that was AWESOME...
(I had a Maxima that was totaled and it sat at the dealershit, and they tried to sell me a new one, which I didn't mind)

So, they brought a white one and they guy, like every sales guy goes, clean CarFax, 1 owner... I do a quick walk around, feel the paint, and I noticed something not Kosher... Popped the hood, awesome, for SURE painted...
I told the guy, and of course, he says, CarFax CarFax!... (They REALLY love that dumb *** thing...)
I showed him the paint overspray on the door jamb and overspray on the battery, and asked "Oh, so this is the way cars are from the factory?" He thought I was retarded and brought the sales manager... Sales manager said, yep, it's been painted and got a little pissed that they bought a damaged car...

Next Maxima they brought... Guy says it's an SV (for non-Maxima people, S is BASE, SV is leather, foglights, turn signals on the mirrors, and home link?)
He brings it out, gunmetal and I said "Oh, so dealer added leather?"
"Oh no, this is factory"...
"Um... No... This is a base S with added leather, see the lack of foglights and mirror signals?"
"This is a special 2010 model, they offered just leather"
So since the manager was still hanging around waiting for me to see the second one. I asked if I could get a word with him privately. Brought him over to the car, showed him something and said... "Look your boy doesn't know a goddamn thing about these cars. I really doubt Nissan fúcked up the stitching" (the center console lid and the door panels are "leather" no matter what trim package you get, and the stitching is like browny-orange... The stitching on the seats was white... LOL!!!)
I also said, "by the way... Front bumper has been repainted, the rubber seal between the hood and the bumper is painted over"

He asked if I wanted a job or could teach their sales team how to ID their cars

kenchan 02-27-2013 02:18 PM

most dealers just waste my time.

except for this one honda dealer i found like an hr away from home. they were actually good. no bs'ing. straight talk, just like i prefer. in and out in no more than 2hrs tops including test drive to buy my dd cash.

muzik212 02-27-2013 02:20 PM

Last year when I was looking for my Z I saw a nice metallic silver base at a local dealership, surrounded by about 25 new and used Maximas. Stopped by to take a peak and a salesman came walking out...

"If you're going to do a lot of modding anyway, just go with the Maxima, you'll get the same power AND luxury."

:gtfo2: a dealer actually said that to you??? Like in seriousness? Or did you ask a stupid question and you got a stupid reply? LOL

b1adesofcha0s 02-27-2013 02:32 PM

Salesman told me I could order a non-40th 370Z in the 40th Quartz color. I told him you couldn't, but he said they could definitely do it. I went ahead and told him to get me one......about 15 mins later he comes back and says they can't do it. :icon17:

FPenvy 02-27-2013 02:32 PM

i taught the guys at the local dealership how to use launch control on the 2013 GTR they had.....:wtf2:

the dealership owner also wanted to give me a job after i rattled off everything about the GTR and then the 370 while his salesmen were flipping through brochures frantically trying to keep up :bowrofl:

SS_Firehawk 02-27-2013 02:39 PM

When I first started looking around, my request was simple. Base Coupe SP model. They have me drive a pearl white touring sport convertible. Then asked me what it would take for me to take that car home... Not happening. We go inside, there is a Nismo. "You want to try this one?" Face palm... Fast forward a year, same dealership, new salesman. Same request. Pearl white touring SP... right next to it was a base sport in black. We get back from the test drive and I say, write me up for that black one.

Eagle 02-27-2013 02:42 PM

Some douche bag sales manager at a Nissan dealerhip in Riverside wanted to sell me a 2012 Solid Red 370z w/sport package and some nismo wheels for $47k OTD. I told him that the price is absurd and that I could get a NISMO for close to that price, he said..."Thats rediculous. The NISMO has a bigger engine". Wanted to slap that fool.

Yessir, in Houston at Baker South... Short fat white guy was the crappy sales guy... Awesome tall black guy was the manager, lol

Cristobal09 02-27-2013 03:13 PM

I pulled up into a dealership close to me, the salesman approaches me and I told him I was looking for the 370. I told him what I was willing to pay and he goes "well you know we have a new 2011 GTR in the showroom that im sure youd like"....
"I dont want a GTR"
"well if youre looking at at 370 you may as well take a look at it"
"NO, what makes you think I can afford a 100 grand car?"
"Well most people who want to buy 370's can afford GTR's"

WTF was wrong with him im thinking. So after the test drive (in the 370) I told him id think about it. I bought my 370 the next day from another salesperson.

More on that... I was having braking issues with my Maxima, they just wouldn't work... And I was involved with Nissan Corporate regarding it.
The dealership in Dallas said that because I had aftermarket foglights, "the ohmage of the ECU was out of spec and prevented the brakes from working"
I told that to my guy at corporate and he LAUGHED HIS ÁSS OFF, ("ohmage" isn't a word) he then called the dealership and told the manager to fire that service guy... Lo and behold... He doesn't work there anymore

I bought my car from Grapevine! well kind of......HORRIBLE IDIOTS THERE! I went looking for a car there. tried to sell me a full base model, noSP for $35k. I told them they were idiots. Went to Nissan of Mckinney where I bought my altima. Sure enough I told them what I wanted. They sent out to grapevine, picked up the same car I looked at there and sold it to be for $31k.

FPenvy 02-27-2013 03:28 PM

i've curious to see what happens when i got to get my clock spring (little part in steering column that passes electricity to the lights on steering wheel controls) replaced soon. my warranty on my 09 is still good til this september since it was on a dealer lot for so long  win there. i'm hoping they dont have to pop the hood and see my intakes......or hear my 90% straight exhaust set-up when i'm coming in lol

That dealership is known for posting rock-bottom prices online then you go in and they claim there are mistakes in pricing. They try to add to the Z msrp and other popular models. And they will lie about your credit score to make you pay more. Just a horrible dealership. 6 people I know went there and walked out.

Then I went online to see what was the deal? 100+ similar complaints. I avoid that place like the plague.

Cmike2780 02-27-2013 03:38 PM

Not stupid per say, but pretty cheezy. So, I've gone to a Nissan Dealership a few times to help out family members buying a car....and this scenario never fails. It's happened 4 different times at two dealerships with different salesman each time. They say the same exact thing, I kid you not.

Me: (checking out the Z in the showroom)
Salesguy: You look great in it, you should buy one...
Me: Already own one actually.
Salesguy: Well, you should get two..har, har,har,har....

Me: What's that center light between the exhaust tip do?
Salesguy: I'm not sure exactly, let me check on that for you....
Me: (lol)

Thats exactly what they did with me. Online price said $31.5k. I walk in and they give me an offer on my altima. Basically paid off, no negative equity and i say deal. Bring me the paperwork for the Z and it says 35k on it. I bring up the ad online and their response is "Oh well that price is for 1st time buyers with no trade-in." I asked if they really expected a first time buyer to buy the Z. Took me about 10 mins to realize how stupid they were. I asked them for the VIN and left. Went to Mckinney 2 days later and when they brought it over, matched VINs. They asked if I wanted to test drive it and I told em I already had 2 days earlier lol. Only had 22 more miles on it from when I left and I assume it was from the drive from Grapevine to Mckinney lol

Before the 370Z was out, one of my sons and I were out running errands on a Saturday afternoon. We were driving by a Nissan dealer, so we decided to cruise the parking lot and look at the 350Z's. Oh yeah, I was driving my 71 240Z.

We were in the lot, stopped and sitting in the Z, looking at the cars and a salesman approached. I cut him off immediately by saying we were just looking. He took a step back and said "You have a nice car" (or something like that). I said thanks and then he asked "Who makes it?".

Amazing. I have Datsun badges on each fender and one on the trunk lid, plus the Z emblems where they belong.

I told him it's a Nissan, badged as a Datsun. He said, "Really?". I said "Get away from me" and did a 3500 RPM clutch dump to drive the point home.

Some years back I was looking for a new car and had a salesman at a Dodge dealer tell me "We're not making a penny on this sale. I'm letting you have it at our cost so we can get your business."

KERMIT 02-27-2013 05:47 PM

I don't know why people care so much about the knowledge of the sales guy. They don't make any money. If they were paid well, you would have more knowledgeable people in that job.

Would you want to pay another $1-2k just so they can tell you details that you already know?

Yes, they are idiots. No, you will not pay for intelligence.

JARblue 02-27-2013 06:04 PM

I went to test drive a 2009 used Z my wife found online at a dealership. They said an employee bought it the night before, and the listing wasn't even supposed to be posted. I said let me test drive one anyway and the used sales guy ended up making a brand new Z sale :icon17:

Of course being used sales, he had no idea about any of the options, so I made sure to emphasize SPORTS PACKAGE specifically because I wanted to test SRM. I met him at the new showroom and they had a shiny red Z out front waiting ..... base model, I can tell immediately from the rims :shakes head: I let him get inside the passenger seat then half sit in the driver seat and point to the blank button where SRM would be. I said I need one that has an actual button here with a shift pattern on it. Like I said, it's the sports package.

( Click to show/hide )
Then I wait while the used car guy goes and searches and eventually finds a 2011 touring sport to test drive. He comes back without the car because he isn't comfortable pulling it out of the mess of car in their garage and there aren't any garage guys around  I'm said show me where the car is and let's go. He reluctantly hands me the keys and we head up to the third story of a garage absolutely packed with new cars. Immediately I regret so boldly claiming I could maneuver this vehicle out of the spot. It is backed into the end spot immediately adjacent to the drive going down to the next level - I basically have to u-turn immediately, but there is absolutely no room whatsoever :shakes head: I analyzed the area for a few minutes and decided it was possible. Then I get in the car and go :wtf: I CAN'T SEE $HIT!! It took about 8 times each back and forth and I got out of the car twice lol but I got it out finally and it was probably great practice getting to know the car  Then we went on a fun test drive, though of course the guy didn't know how to turn off SRM. We negotiated a good price on a sport package base found at a dealership in Oklahoma and they sent me home in that red base Z as a loaner while they acquired our Z. I went home later that night and found that you have to hold down the button briefly to turn off SRM - on this forum of course

kenchan 02-27-2013 06:11 PM

mr.jar- hahaha! :D this reminds me of a dumbarse salesboy at a mazda dealer who asked me (i was just another customer looking around) to pull out one of their customer cars out of the way cause he couldn't drive MT. lol
