I love to do this. Did the same thing the last 2 times i bought a car and my gf and i did the same thing when we went to buy her jeep. Obviously im talking about dressing plainly, not buying a 200k car :icon17:. This helps when you want to just look and not be bothered by salesmen

I have a good one I think.:roflpuke2:Right after i got my Z, i ordered a pair of kick plates. I didn't feel like tearing things apart on it, so I asked the dealer where i bought it and quoted for 300 (with employee discount). Asked another one, quoted 350 and another one with 250. Finally I asked this dealer and they said we can do it 100 bucks.:bowrofl:

I used to get the occasional service work and parts from that dealership, not anymore. If I was a salesman, I would of been thinking .. 2010 Nismo, that should be close to paid for... let's make this sale here and then try and get him to trade up as well.

Funny I was just watching a show and they were interviewing the owner of Lamborghini of Miami whom does 200 million in sales a year. He said something to the extent of "If they come in wearing a suit, they aren't buying. If they come in wearing cargo shorts and flip flops, they just came from their yacht and want to have some fun". :tiphat:

You'd think they treat you better pulling up in a TT Nismo...Me and my buddy pulled up to Lamborghini of Atlanta in sports cars. The salesman there took us very seriously and was very helpful. We were just looking honestly, but many people here have loaded parents so they know better than to just dismiss two 22 year olds because we were young. Made me respect that dealer a lot more because of how well we were treated. When I buy my Lambo (:bowrofl:) That's where I'm goin.

I bought my car myself. I'm a commercial pilot and I'm not spoiled at all, but there are some kids up here driving 100k-200k car from daddy.

Stopped by my local Nissan dealer the other day..(I'm 24, been in the market for one for 3 or 4 months now). Talking to the salesman for a couple minutes..he says "you know this is a 50 thousand dollar car right?" Me..Yes I do. Couple minutes later "you know the payment on this would be around $1200 a month right?" I promptly told him I had the funds to cover it free and clear. That shut him up. It ticked me off him insinuating just because I was young I had no money. Mind you I'm not planning to buy new, looking for one around $25k, but it still left the dealer with a bad feeling. Who is he to judge me. Maybe my parents are millionaires and told me to go shopping. He'll never find out.

I didn't buy a Dodge Viper because as I was admiring the car and I told the dealer I wanted it, his reply was, "...and HOW do you plan to pay for it?"

I shouted back, "NICKELS!"

Grindkiezer 12-07-2013 08:31 PM

There's a salesman that works at Nissan in my city and he claims to know more about my car then I do simply because he works there. I interacted with him once when after I dropped off my car I spent the next 15 minutes waiting for my ride to pick me up exploring the lot looking at other Z's. He spotted me and tried to sell me on it, except after I asked why the description of the car had 18" wheels on a nismo he said it's because all Z's have 18" stock. But then I told him I have a Z and its right over in there (service department) now every time I see him he tries to prove himself to me or something.

I made them go get me a new salesman after the first one scoffed at me wanting a test drive. The same salesman scoffed at my (supposed) inability to pay for it.

The same salesman who didn't get my commission. :icon17:

aha. The guy I bought my Z from told me he took me as a serious potential buyer because he has seen many young folks walk in and out with a car before.
I was 19 at the time, looked like 16 haha.

This one time when I went in for service, I was wearing my scrubs from work. They legitly tried to sell me a GTR..they were like it will be like 1800 a month etc LOL
I was like uhh maybe in 5 years.

Rhinetom 12-09-2013 10:06 AM

Nissan Service Tech: Do you want the regular oil or, the expensive stuff? We have a special on tire rotation, if you're interested.

Rhinetom 12-09-2013 10:10 AM

Oh, forgot this one from a female salesperson: Obviously, the convertible is faster because that top is very light and when you put it down it weighs nothing at all.

Justice97 12-09-2013 12:41 PM

When I got to the dealer I told them I wanted a free cap and keychain.

2 weeks later I got a free cap and keychain with my plates.

No stupid lines no dumb questions, they were very cool from the 1st call to negotiate a negotiating start point on the price.

winnre 12-25-2013 08:13 PM

One dealer told me the auto 370Z has a CVT and you never hear the gears change. If you do, you did something wrong.

HelluvaG 12-25-2013 10:32 PM

the dumb guy with the honda shirt told me these toyotas sell like hotcakes, but then i was at a nissan dealer. typical car salesman

... Fake story is fake^^

1_Stealth_Z 12-26-2013 09:26 AM

No **** there I was...I pull into a dealership in Jackson tn in my Z (see below for mods all current at the time this happened) with my mom because I let her drive mine and she loved it so much she wanted to by one herself. So we get out and they have a 2012 touring and they ask me in all seriousness...So do you want to trade your car in for this one here. I look at him like dafuq O_o?!?! We then tell him that my mom was actually there looking for one and wanted to know how much they are asking for it. They would not give us an asking price or any price for that matter. They pretty much acted like we couldn't afford it so we just left and she went to Memphis the next day and looked at them and ended up buying a Miata...that's when I disowned her lol just kidding.

It's funny when people complain about salesmen not knowing the product. It usually doesn't translate to a lower transaction price for those that know more about the car. Learn how to negotiate and it will get you much further than product knowledge.

This is one thing that I would very much like to get better at. I'm actually a good salesman and I can negotiate, but I no nothing about auto pricing and where the inflate the prices, so I don't know what's reasonable to fight them in and what's not.
It basically goes, I want a lower price, they say no,it's below msrp (or whatever) and I don't know what reasons to quote as to why they should do what I want lol.

I will say that when I bought my wife's audio A4 they tried to put a $990 "dealer document fee" in there. Googled it and found that it was just a bs markup so I called them on it, got it taken care of. Ended up getting a 2007 Audi A4 with 35,000 miles in great shape for $18,000. Not to bad but I wonder if I could have done better...

Zdayz 2014!!

When I was looking for a 370z Nismo, the dealers didn't had one! The saleman told me that I should buy a 35 anniversary 370z insted...

LOL. Did you tell him the car does not exist?

2xtreme1 03-02-2014 10:20 PM

Went to one dealership for my first oil change and he told me I should consider getting new tires pretty soon.
He said they were at like 4/32nds. He SUGGESTED THAT I ROTATE THE TIRES LOL.
go foward about five months for my next oil change and somehow my tires got some thread back or something.
I had like 8/32nds
wow .

Yea I've gotten that too. They even told me that I need to change my brake pads too. The receipt sread 865 bucks... I left that hell hole and went home to change my oil. Checked on my pads and tires and it was perfectly fine... :shakes head:

jaedub 03-02-2014 11:09 PM

When I was in search of my Z, I specifically told the salesperson that I'm looking for a black Z. He brought out a cherry Z and told me they look pretty much the same in color.

Oomicha3loo 03-02-2014 11:20 PM

When I was in search of a 350z, one of the sale person tried to look for the battery, he said the car battery is "internal".

XiP 03-02-2014 11:32 PM

I bought my 370Z at a Toyota dealership and they didn't know anything about it.
Test drove a GT-R at a Toyota dealership as well and they didn't know anything about it :icon17:

On a plus note my salesguy at the Porsche dealership that I bought my IS-F and 911 from knows his stuff. He said all the sales people are sent to Porsche driving school regularly and get to test drive various models.
When I was test driving my 911 he was giving me a bunch of driving tips and showing me what all the buttons and stuff do. Now that was a great salesman! No BS, no hassle, knows his stuff

My neighbor sells BMWs PT and makes good supplementary income doing it. He bought his 750 and 525 from Germany on two different occasions. Picked out what he wanted, drove it through Europe before turning it in for shipment back to the US. Tell me he does not know his shyte and I'll show you chicken with four wings.

Luciano13 03-03-2014 04:50 AM

When i bought my Z the sales guy told me to gain more.power i only.need to change the pulley on the supercharger:roflpuke2:
When they brought it outside to put on the plates, 5/6 sales guys came out including a few managers and one of them asked if the 370z comes in auto:inoutroflpuke:
I told them yes, 7A:bowrofl:

lt_370z 03-03-2014 08:51 AM

I went to the dealership for an oil change when I first got the Z and brought my own oil (Pennzoil Ultra $30) and oil filter (Mobil 1 $10). The service advisor asks why I don't just use the factory oil and filter because its "all the same". I said how much do you charge for parts and labor? He said $85 total (give or take). So I ask him how much does labor cost? He said $12. I said well I guess its not all the same then...he nodded and I said do the math. He was still confused.

Masterbeatty 03-03-2014 10:02 AM

I went in to the local dealership for a quote on installing my rear diff, and the first words from the service MANAGER's mouth was, " I dont even know if we have the tools or ability to do all that". So i gave him my info and left. Not a good feeling they are compitent Techs's.

LevelZ 03-03-2014 10:15 AM

First guy I tried to buy a Z from was extremely cocky. Every word that came out of his mouth was crazy fast and you could barely understand or keep up with whatever he was going on about. He was trying to sell a base Z touring for 37.5k and no matter how much I tried to negotiate with him he wouldn't lower "his" price. I did take a test drive though, and the guy was basically tweeting and facebooking the whole time. I got his attention though when I maxed out the volume on the radio station. Guy almost had a heart attack. He wasn't serious about making deal cause I was like 22 I suppose and thought I didn't have the money, so...

I upped and left and found another dealer that gave me a deal with the same package for around 29k which was about the cheapest price for a low mileage Z in south Louisiana. Even got a free paint job to cover up any dents on the car. It's so shiny now you might wanna lick it to see if it taste like candy

zguynate 03-03-2014 10:37 AM

When I first started looking at Z's, I went to a local dealer to look at this 350z (This was in 09). It was used and I was 20. I must have gotten the most douchey saleman on the lot. He and another guy was riding around on a golf cart. I asked if I could test drive the car and he said "Well..... are you going to buy it?". I told him that I was seriously looking at purchasing a Z, and that I have never driven one. So it would really depend on the test drive. The guy said "Well if your serious, lets go inside and get some paperwork going. Then, we can drive it." WTF. Im not buying a car that I havent driven...

DjSquall 03-03-2014 12:08 PM

When I walked in to buy my Z, the manager said I'll never afford the car... 3 hours later I burned rubber in his face as I left the dealership with my shiny new car.

grandpawmoses 03-03-2014 01:29 PM

Just this January my wife and I walked into (did not drive into) an out-of-town Chevy dealer and asked to test drive a $73,000 2014 Corvette convertible. The salesman handed us the keys and told us where to take it to "open it up". We came back and then test drove a $78,000 2014 Premier Edition Corvette.
Get this, they only had my name verbally.
Deciding not to drop the coin on a Vette, we went to the home town Nissan dealer (in my wifes 2013 535i BMW) to test drive a 2014 370Z. I had to produce license, proof of insurance, and then my wife couldn't go on the test ride cause the salesman had to go.
