They don't use compression absorbers anymore. Most cars use a crumple bracket that deforms on impact and serves as a first line of defense against deforemation of the unibody. These brackets need to be replaced to restore proper bumper alignment as well as provide protection against future impacts.

Styrofoam is often used along with the deformable brackets - but I believe the primary purpose for the styrofoam is to give support to the shape of the fascia (less give if you lean on it).
