Max is really nice. Mine just arrived yesterday. The range is noticeably farther. Colors are changeable, sound is about the same as the 9500ix, but there is an option to switch do a different sound setting. I have not really had time to play yet but im hoping its louder. I have found a strobe light that plugs into the heeadphone jack. Soon as it gets in I'll post up if it works.

so I just gave in and ordered a V1. They always update their firmware, sadly you have to send it in though:( Secondly I love the arrows that point either in front of or behind! Plus with so many v1 owners out there, they all cant be wrong.

Secondly, I had a panhandle Z member message me saying buy his Escort Redline off of him for X dollar amount as he wants a V1 instead. I offered him an amount so I got a great deal on it! So basically I won here. I have 3 cars anyhow so one can go in one and the other in another! Ive heard amazing things about the Escort Redline, best distance of any detector out there!

Now to test them out at the same time in the car when I go on a road trip:) I have to do the suggested distance though apart so they dont bleed over and cause errors in detection.

Radar Detector Help

Passport Max vs. Valentine One. Classic radar detector battle.

I've read a lot and I've know a lot about those two. Everyone that has either or swears by them. There doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the two. Ive had some friends that used the Passport and other the V1. Money isn't an issue seeing how the price difference isn't that big between those two. I'm leaning towards V1 so far though.

I wanted to get some opinions from you guys to see if you guy have used these, or use something else entirely.

I got pulled over yesterday for going 83 [I was driving traffic flow with both far left lanes traveling 80+]. But oh here comes a 2 door sport car...LUCKILY, he let me go with a warning. I wasn't being a d!ck.

Please chime in and help me make a decision, I want to order one asap.

I have a V1 and will not drive my Z without it. I have come to rely on it.

The Arrows are where it's at.........the Arrows. The bogey counter........that's what makes the difference with the V1 vs. Passport.

Both will get the job done. You can't go wrong with either one. Like you said, it's a personal preference.

Thanks for your input tiger.

I weant to upgrade to either the Beltronics STi or the 500. The 500 promises no false alarms, the STi is not detectable. Wny not put ALL the features inot ONE unit?!

edconline 04-19-2014 12:47 AM

Because for a detector to undetectable requires a case design that doesn't 'leak' any radar signal. A case like that doesn't lend itself well to having GPS inside it. The only thing that is the best of all worlds/features is the Bel Sti-R Plus installed unit. It accomplishes that because all the components are separated out.

I just went from the Escort 9500ix to the Redline. Way better range and undetectable but false alarms went up. I added Escort Live which let me sync it with my phone and use the app to lock out all the false alerts. Not a bad solution IMO.

What states are they illegal in? I know Virginia, but is the "undetectable" feature needed outside of the handful of states ONE state and D.C. that they're illegal in?

They aren't illegal in CA, Winnre, so you don't need that undetectable feature.

No, but in California it is technically illegal to affix them to your windshield (for obstructing vision).

But they won't cite you for it. Most likely the only ones getting any citation for it are the ones getting multiple violations and the officer just tacks it on. :stirthepot:

I never had any issues with my detector, thankfully. And now I have mine hard wired and use the Blendmount. One day I'll make it back over the border to Democratic Peoples Republic of California.

Radar Detector

I'm looking for a sensibly priced police radar detector that actually works and is reliable, so I'm not going to waste like 50-100 bucks on something that completely sucks. I heard the really good ones are like 600 bucks but what are some of the ones you guys would recommend that are very reliable. If the only ones that are good are 500-600 bucks then so be it.

Thanks!
