So many  points here...

1. Car size is irrelevant to radar/laser targeting. They are aiming for your license plate or headlight, which is always incredibly smaller than the entire car.

2. You do realize that a cop doesn't need to physically "see" your car until he gets a ping on his emitter? He gets a ping, looks at the car it locked, visually acquires you, and pulls onto the road.

3. With the PRTs of modern radars, they most certainly can ping multiple cars in succession with no problems. Doesn't matter if you're the 1st, 2nd, or 5th car in a line, they can single you out.

You're putting a lot of faith in the car behind you to be paying enough attention to slow down with you instead of riding up on you. :ugh2:

4. I had said that you are in front of another car, and e-Braking to slow down, that you're putting faith in the car behind you to slow down as well... I think you might have misread what I said?

Tell me how they see my license plate or headlight if there is a car behind me and the cop is behind that car.

By the radar need to see the car. Asuming there is a Toyota Camry behind me and the cop behind the Camry, what does he point his radar at?

In succession, yes. We are not talking about a parade of cars going by a stationary cop. We are talking about me driving AWAY from the cop, and there is a car behind me, and the cop wants to read my car, not the one behind, or in front of, me.

I never e-brake with a car behind me. But with NO car behind me exept a sttaionary cop, yes I'll e-brake. With a car behind me, the cop will no easier see me than I see him.

Yeah I wasn't referring to a cop rolling with you in traffic... If you get busted by a moving cop, it's your own fault. :icon17:

I was referring to a cop set up somewhere.

winnre 12-01-2013 04:26 PM

If you go back to my original ebrake statement it was referring to a cop seeing me from behind. Rolling or not. If he sees my brake lights the can say that is an admission of guilt!

Oh ok, you were responding to DE's post. I thought you were responding to mine.

My bad. :tiphat:

I'd like your input

Not really sure what I'd do, guess it would depend on how close the cop is (slower or faster beeps). If it's instant on behind me I guess I might as well pull over and get the documents ready.

Not everyone is going to think the arrows are a good idea, I however believe they are and really can't see in what situation it would be bad to know direction the radar is being shot from. Outside of the arrows I guess it really comes down to who you think has better electronics, better R&D and an overall better product...to each their own.

Just ordered the Passport Max for the Z. I have the 9500ix in the truck so I will be able to compare the two. Supposed to be better, we'll see.

Is the Max a dash mounted unit, or fully installed unit?

It is. Just update the firmware ASAP, my only complaint is that it isn't as loud as the 9500iX.

Dash

XwChriswX 12-11-2013 10:25 PM

You'll possibly get some cross detector interference having 2 dash mounted units in 1 car. (For your testing purposes)

So you might get more false signals. :ugh2:

Just the max in the Z.

Jan 2014 Car & Driver compares the V1 and the Passport Max. Gives the nod to the Max as it reduces false alarms better even though it performed poorly on rear laser hits.

kenchan 12-12-2013 01:51 PM

been using an older 7500 in my dd.

the biggest annoyance is not false alarms. it's the where is the f-king signal coming from?! annoyance.

i run V1's in my hobby cars. i dont see myself ever changing until another brand offers arrows (directionality).

Any dash unit is going to have problems with this due to low visibility.

wstar 12-12-2013 02:10 PM

Really, rear laser is kinda pointless anyways. If you get nailed on rear laser, that means you drove all the way up to and right past a cop who's standing out on the side of the road with a gun pointed at you, and you still didn't slow down even after you passed him. Your own damn fault at that point :)
