The whole jammers vs LEO stuff is pretty familiar for any security/crime discussion. For instance, the same scenario holds true in information security where "black hat" criminals may inadvertantly make their tools harder to use because information is shared with the good guys who design better protections/detections, etc.

Ultimately, LEOs could just become interested in the subject on their own and be a member of the forum/community without divulging their day job. If they want to learn and beat your tactics, they can. At least this way you know they have progressed. :) Ultimately, you both will become better. At least until your countermeasures (on either side) become too costly.

IMO, the world becomes a bit safer and more advanced as things like that ratchet up.

You have to be careful with the "shifters" as some states allow radar detectors, but not Jammers/Shifters. If you tamper with police equipment, and they can ping you for it, technically you are obstructing the officers ability to enforce the law. Even if he wasn't going to pull you over before, now he can... even if you weren't speeding.

Just something to think about... I have the 9500ci and have the shifters off for that reason.

they turn off quickly with a double tap of the mute button,(once you are ready to have your speed read)

Really? Might look back into it then, I thought an "On/Off" switch had to be hard wired into them...

That's why I have a kill switch on my jammer ;)

I got a 9500ix and I am very pleased with it, fairly quiet due to understanding false alarms and GPS location.

Has anyone gotten their hands on the new Passport Max?

The passport folks seem to think its the greatest thing ever made but I haven't heard any first hand opinions yet.

https://www.escortradar.com/passportmax/index.php

It does say "Pre-Order Now" so it may not even be available anywhere yet.

EDIT: Update - I asked when they will be available and got this repsonse:
"We estimate orders for the new Passport Max placed before June 11th, 2013 will begin shipping in June. Orders placed after that date will begin shipping in July. All are on a first ordered – first shipped basis. We will not be able to give anyone an exact shipping date. We will send an e-mail message with the tracking number when your order ships!"

My father just sent me a brochure from Escort about this unit. He wants it haha. I told him I havent heard anything about it yet...

After doing a good amount of research I got down to the escort 9500ix and then right after that saw the Max coming out.

Hopefully some tests come out soon.
I'm not falling for the new display - I could care less - but if it has all the same features as the 9500 with some added range and accuracy.....

9500xi for me, the only thing that I don't like is that I lost some signal response roughly about a car length nothing to worry about as I can pick up a signal 2-3 miles out. Oh and I lose reception with the GPS once in a while no biggie there just don't run red lights.

What does that mean? Your detection range decreased by a car length??

Radar Detectors

I live in Central Texas.
◦ Does anyone still use them?
◦ I need to know the makes and models you use.
◦ Anyway to block the lasers? I don't have a front licence plate.
