Thanks for the suggestion.

I updated the Op with a thread that was created to track members issues.

I would like everyone and only those with an issue to post their info.

Anything else will be removed.

Can we make another stickied thread in the Welcome section of the forum that brings people to this thread? Or vice versa?

It's the new people that are buying used that need to know what's up

I'm trying to post as much as I can on every "new forum member" 's post

I have a list of users that have reported SLU failure - 112 at last count. It is 3-4 weeks behind, but should give you a good start. You can find a link to the list at http://www.the370z.com/engine-drivet...heel-lock.html

not to go off topic, to SouthArk370Z, I had the opportunity to have dinner
with George Best back in the early 80's when he was playing in San Jose, CA.
Great guy and yes, he was with a knockout bird.

steering wheel lock fixed for free

I had the dreaded steering wheel lock issue about 10 days ago. Key warning light, car wouldn't start, etc. I took my 2009 w/sport pkg. to Collins Nissan in Louisville and the lock was replaced for free; however, they never mentioned recall. Apparently the part runs about $1000. I was very grateful since I was about 5k miles beyond warranty.

Oh wow, that's impressive. Wouldn't you have been over the 3yr time frame regardless of mileage? I called my local dealer and they didn't offer to do crap other than tell me what was wrong (which I already knew from here).

Would you agree that if you are still under warranty you should not pull the fuse, so hopefully the failure happens under warranty and then you would get the most recent version installed?

Your thoughts?

I have the same question. I have an extended warranty and if it fails will I get the update under warranty ?

I have a 2011 Z w/ the Rev. D lock still under warranty but I ended up pulling the fuse yesterday.

It literally takes 10 minutes, I'd rather have peace of mind knowing I won't be randomly stranded somewhere and have to deal with getting the car towed and worked on at the dealer. Even if they foot the bill, they can't reimburse the time I wasted on such a simple issue if it were to happen.

Bucket and Blue. Order the harness or pull the fuse. The system was deleted starting in late 2011 and is not on the 2012 or 2013. Nissan see's the system as useless by this action. They have done something about it by deleting it en-mass from the car. Do the same for yours.
Why risk a failure(as every Rev has failed thus far) if Nissan doesnt think otherwise and got rid of it for good. Do the same and enjoy the ride! :)

I agree. Thank you again.

Mine failed too. Unfortunately I didn't see this posts before or else I would of remove that darn fuse. $700 and 2 weeks of suffering.

Stosh Rickles 01-14-2013 04:59 PM

My 09 just failed - it probably failed twice before this but somehow replacing the car battery (and maybe warmer weather at the time of replacement, who knows) allowed the car to start. I didn't equate it to SLU the first two times because of the fact that it started back up.

I will do the requisite bashing of the SLU with something blunt to see if I can avoid taking it to the dealer. But I had a thought:

If I take it to the dealer, let them fix it, and then refuse to pay on the grounds that Nissan USA refuses to acknowledge the problem, what can they do other than keep the car on the lot? It's winter in PA so I'm not driving it anyway... what do you think would happen first: Corporate folding and covering the cost, or the Dealer's lawyers taking me to court for the cost? :)

You will probably accrue interest and storage charges. It doesn't look like Nissan is going to change their attitude and the dealer's hands are tied as long as Nissan won't authorize warranty/recall. Pay the dealer and hope that Nissan will offer a refund should they decide to do a recall.

Stosh Rickles 01-14-2013 08:36 PM

Sounds right... I had an even more preposterous idea than that but I'll spare everyone :stirthepot:

BTW, despite how much this issue makes me want to punch Nissan in the face, the one thing I haven't seen mentioned yet in Nissan's defense re:recalls/TSBs is that it's not just a matter of the ROI on replacing all problematic SLUs; there's also the added potential of thousands of false positives being reported.

If '09-'10 Nissan products had a TSB out for bad SLUs, but the only evidence of a bad SLU is a car that won't start, then anyone owning those vehicles could say a) that a dead car meets the TSB stips; and b) if the dealer attempts to resolve the issue as anything other than the SLU TSB, they are violating the terms. I could demand a replacement of the SLU even if I had merely left the dome light on for a week.

The fact that you can get a car with a bad SLU running again - sometimes by accident - makes it extremely difficult for both consumers AND Nissan to defend.
