Lols. Yep. Began by tapping it gently with my hand. Wouldn't unlock. Then proceeded to really bang it and did that for a few minutes. Still wouldn't unlock.

So I call a flatbed. While waiting I'm like fsck it. I slide the seat all the way back and recline it. I kinda lay back. So there I am, somewhat laying back, but stretched out holding down the clutch, and pushing the start button, and I just start kicking the s*it out it. Then it hear it unlock!!

I'm like fsck yeh!! Even though the car was cold I was happy as hell that I rev'd it pretty good a few times to hear my car come back from the dead with that sweet exhaust growl!

Tapatalk & such etc

Sorry for the mistaken on the other thread. They replaced mine with the revision "D" so far no problem. I will report right away when the rev "D" failed again. But I believe the "rev D" is the most stable one. If u guy want a picture. I don't mind to take another picture and upload it here after work.

And also what I heard from my dealer. My steering lock failed then short the body control module. So they need to replace my body control module too. They said its really odd what happened to my car. They thats fine they fixed it anyway.

My fault. I should have looked a little deeper. The pics you posted previously are a few comments below your post that I linked to.

Has anyone considered looking into a class action suit? Not sure if you can even do that for cars or not. All I know is that my car is stuck and the dealer says it's gonna cost about $1100 to get this taken care of.

I'll start doing some research on how class action suits work.

edub370 01-07-2013 05:39 PM

i think a poll should be in order. then sent to nissan.

simply "who has had a steering lock failure" then include this with a formal letter to nissan.

If you're handy you can fix it yourself, and by fix I mean make sure it never causes a problem again.

No way I would let the dealer gig me for $1100 knowing it could be fixed at home for like.. $15. [excluding the cost of towing it back home]

Problem is, it's already stuck. And so far I've only seen ways that might work to get it started again (tapping, etc). So if those options don't work, I might have to go to the dealer. If I did miss something though, feel free to point it out. I've had a fever for a few days, my car is actually stuck at the clinic where I was for a Dr. appt.

if you guys are serious.

start a thread, asking people who have had the issue to post things like year of car, when it failed, where etc details. And try to get triples on board or someone to delete anything posted outside that. Only way your really going to get a good idea of just how many have failed and across what year cars and situations.

The only three methods I know of (none 100% successful) are:
* Percussive. Some have reported success with a good bump, others have had to beat the feces out of it.
* Manual Reset. Remove the SLU and manually push the lock pin into the fully retracted position.
* Rebuild. Remove and disassemble the SLU. Verify switch operation and reassemble so the the locking pin is fully retracted and making the switches.

If you have tried all those without success, then you will have to buy a new SLU. You can save $$$ by replacing it yourself - it's an easy job if you have the right pliers.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I updated the Op with a thread that was created to track members issues.

I would like everyone and only those with an issue to post their info.

Anything else will be removed.
