|
thank you for this!

So RevD and RevE are problem free? Anyone know when they switched? I've got a June 2010 build so I think I'm good but I guess I'll check just in case...
|
so far problem free for rev d but it could go out...not sure? haven't heard of any Ds and Es going out yet?

One member here with a 2011 Z had the failure. Dont wait - Use the fixes avail to get this thing isolated. The system was deleted in late 2011 from the car so why would you EVEN risk it. Its a useless system.

So you can freely rotate the wheel when the car is off? |

'Nissan stopped using these locks on the 2012 Z's entirely, confirmed by a member who looked on her car for us... which is not very convincing for those of us stuck with the 'old' system. another member confirmed he could turn the steering L/R by hand pushing on the tires while the front end is off the ground, car turned off....so there is no substitute mechanism on the 3/2011 build to present.' |

I thought it was a mistake? that they DID replaced huanz with revision "d" and not E?

NISSAN fixed the design. The fix wasn't to keep revising the lock. The fix was to delete the lock entirely (on later model Z's).
It's likely they had trend data on all revisions, showing a high defect rate due to an inherent flaw. The enthusiast community fixed the design too (on earlier model Z's). The fix is to virtually delete the lock by pulling the fuse, harness, cutting the wire etc. Stuff like this makes me really like that we got such a kick arse forum! I'm one of guys that got saved from getting stranded. For me, it was late at night, in the rain, in the corner of a deserted airport parking lot, having just gotten off a 6+ hour fight. My SL failed! I kicked the SL and got my car to start. Drove home, left car on, pulled up the fuse thread, then pulled the fuse. Took a few minutes. Saved me tons of cash and the hassle of leaving my car with the dealer. Tapatalk & such etc |

SUCH A KICK ARSE FORUM!!! Agreed!!! And you literally kicked the bitch into submission??? Lol |
I agree. I love this forum! very helpful.
|
Lols. Yep. Began by tapping it gently with my hand. Wouldn't unlock. Then proceeded to really bang it and did that for a few minutes. Still wouldn't unlock.
So I call a flatbed. While waiting I'm like fsck it. I slide the seat all the way back and recline it. I kinda lay back. So there I am, somewhat laying back, but stretched out holding down the clutch, and pushing the start button, and I just start kicking the s*it out it. Then it hear it unlock!! I'm like fsck yeh!! Even though the car was cold I was happy as hell that I rev'd it pretty good a few times to hear my car come back from the dead with that sweet exhaust growl! Tapatalk & such etc |
Sorry for the mistaken on the other thread. They replaced mine with the revision "D" so far no problem. I will report right away when the rev "D" failed again. But I believe the "rev D" is the most stable one. If u guy want a picture. I don't mind to take another picture and upload it here after work.
|
And also what I heard from my dealer. My steering lock failed then short the body control module. So they need to replace my body control module too. They said its really odd what happened to my car. They thats fine they fixed it anyway.

We're all try to help each other. No body fault here. threads like these..I'm glad I'm a member on here. without this forum id be lost lol
|
Yeah this forum really helps me from a-z. Specially all the mods:)

Has anyone considered looking into a class action suit? Not sure if you can even do that for cars or not. All I know is that my car is stuck and the dealer says it's gonna cost about $1100 to get this taken care of.
I'll start doing some research on how class action suits work. |
i think a poll should be in order. then sent to nissan.
simply "who has had a steering lock failure" then include this with a formal letter to nissan. |

If you're handy you can fix it yourself, and by fix I mean make sure it never causes a problem again. No way I would let the dealer gig me for $1100 knowing it could be fixed at home for like.. $15. [excluding the cost of towing it back home] |

if you guys are serious.
start a thread, asking people who have had the issue to post things like year of car, when it failed, where etc details. And try to get triples on board or someone to delete anything posted outside that. Only way your really going to get a good idea of just how many have failed and across what year cars and situations. |

* Percussive. Some have reported success with a good bump, others have had to beat the feces out of it. * Manual Reset. Remove the SLU and manually push the lock pin into the fully retracted position. * Rebuild. Remove and disassemble the SLU. Verify switch operation and reassemble so the the locking pin is fully retracted and making the switches. If you have tried all those without success, then you will have to buy a new SLU. You can save $$$ by replacing it yourself - it's an easy job if you have the right pliers. |

I updated the Op with a thread that was created to track members issues. I would like everyone and only those with an issue to post their info. Anything else will be removed. |

It's the new people that are buying used that need to know what's up I'm trying to post as much as I can on every "new forum member" 's post |

Also, if a class action lawsuit does go thru.. people better do a lil donation to keep this site going!! the solutions, the information is all on here! |
I have a list of users that have reported SLU failure - 112 at last count. It is 3-4 weeks behind, but should give you a good start. You can find a link to the list at http://www.the370z.com/engine-drivet...heel-lock.html

not to go off topic, to SouthArk370Z, I had the opportunity to have dinner
with George Best back in the early 80's when he was playing in San Jose, CA. Great guy and yes, he was with a knockout bird. |
steering wheel lock fixed for free
I had the dreaded steering wheel lock issue about 10 days ago. Key warning light, car wouldn't start, etc. I took my 2009 w/sport pkg. to Collins Nissan in Louisville and the lock was replaced for free; however, they never mentioned recall. Apparently the part runs about $1000. I was very grateful since I was about 5k miles beyond warranty.

Would you agree that if you are still under warranty you should not pull the fuse, so hopefully the failure happens under warranty and then you would get the most recent version installed?
Your thoughts? |

I have a 2011 Z w/ the Rev. D lock still under warranty but I ended up pulling the fuse yesterday.
It literally takes 10 minutes, I'd rather have peace of mind knowing I won't be randomly stranded somewhere and have to deal with getting the car towed and worked on at the dealer. Even if they foot the bill, they can't reimburse the time I wasted on such a simple issue if it were to happen. |

Why risk a failure(as every Rev has failed thus far) if Nissan doesnt think otherwise and got rid of it for good. Do the same and enjoy the ride! :) |
