This problem has been solved by removing the clutch switch and cleaning the contacts with emery paper or a jewellers file. Reassemble the switch, reinstall and you're good to go! No more pause...

It's the same switch for automatics. Works in a similar fashion and is susceptible to the same oxidization. And pulling the fuse doesn't create the pause condition at all. Some people notice it about the same time which is merely a coincidence.
And yes. It has fixed the problem. JARblue is working on the solution for pintsizes auto with the same issue. Stay tuned!

I would have loved to have seen your contacts before you cleaned them. Last edited by Ubetit; 07-04-2013 at 07:23 AM. |

The auto uses the same switch to determine brake pedal position.

There has been at least three others with this same issue resolved by doing this same thing. The contacts do not need to 'look' dirty to be not making good electrical contact. Mine 'looked' clean. I measured resistance with an ohm meter and found the reading to be anything from open to fluctuating around 75 ohms. After a quick clean with emery paper between the contacts, every connection I tested after that was a dead short and upon re-assembling and testing the car it has not repeated the delay once.
I understand your hesitation to accept this as a solution as it seems too simple, but it is just that. Simple. Try it!

I have never noticed a "delay" just the standard 1-2 seconds after pushing the button. Most push to start cars have this kind of delay. I always assumed it was the car going from Off, to Acc, to ON which takes a sec. Never really bothered me.

You don't have the delay yet then. No reason to clean the contacts yet!

Try this:
1) get in the car and start it right away. 2) get in the car and wait around 20-30 seconds before starting it. I think there's a delay in starting when you have waited a little. |
