My '09 370 has been the most reliable car I've owned so far and my previous car was a Honda Accord to put that into perspective. No major issues, only cosmetic things like a rattle or two and the touring model's radio knobs suck. Volume will randomly decide to increase to full blast or mute itself. I've got 35K miles on the car now.

'09 is fine. almost 4yrs driven/ 40K miles. Tracked a lot. Reliable, strong and still like new. Enjoy it - would do it again. I'm sure a couple bad ones out there like any new car you buy from any manf. I did have the steering lock replaced under warranty but that was it and no big deal.

My 2009 has been trouble free. Only oil changes and a pre-emptive fuse pull. That doesn't mean that I don't have a few complaints, but those are minor. This is my fourth Z and they all have been great. But even the best of cars eventually cause some problems, no matter what the marque.

Try owning a BMW. Engine is bullet proof, but everything electronic will fail with a huge bill to follow. For example, the electronic thermostat was $400. All four window regulators failed on my 325i...around $500 each. I don't trust American cars for reliability and after my experience with German I am back to Japanese. I owned 4 Hondas and never did anything to them other than scheduled maintenance.

I've had my '97 Acura for 15 years now and 100,000 miles, with only a power window motor to pay for. Still looks, drives and feels like new---and I'm not exaggerating.

I forgot my final stage resistor for the climate control on the Bimmer failed resulting in a $700 bill. I also had both rear springs break. Granted Chicago roads are crap, but they were the same roads I drove in my Hondas with no spring problems. My girlfriend drive the same roads in her Miata with no broken springs. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with BMW quality. Great car to drive, but bring lots of money to the party. Knock on wood, the Z is great so far.

Love our 2009 Z. We know the issues and will deal with them as needed. Have no plans to trade it for a later model. Believe the 09 coupe with MT will be a very desired car in the future by collectors.

There's always a price to pay if you're an early adopter, but the problems isn't as widespread as that article is saying. Lemons are bound to slip through the crack. It doesn't matter if you're buying a Z, a Porsche...heck a Ferrari. You're gonna run into something sooner or later. Get an extended warranty if you want a bit more peace of mind and call it a day. Honestly though, even with our bias, would you believe us or some idiot they hired to write an article who likely never even stepped foot in a Z.
