I am glad to hear about your low damage incident. Impressive.

danegrey 10-25-2012 11:04 AM

sorry to hear about the bump, but do have it checked out as everyone says...
good luck to you

after seeing the small damage, do you guys still think it'll be enough to have damaged the inner frame and foam?

omm370z 10-25-2012 11:19 AM

You are really lucky indeed.

It's possible, you never know, since these cars have plastic bumpers they tend to pop back out
And I know. In these modern cars ANY accident feels HUGE, someone slammed on their brakes on the freeway and I was in my '09 Maxima, and I must have hit the person at less than 5mph, but holy crap it sounded and felt bad, the only damage was an imprint of the trucks tow hitch in my bumper... (Wasn't my fault, woman had dropped a water bottle and slammed on the brakes trying to pick it up)
And with the Z, my buddy was driving to school so I could read and he pulled into the parking space, coasted to maybe half a mile per hour and hit the wall, luckily I had my tow hook installed, so no damage, but it was a hell of a jolt (and yeah, I'd let him drive again)
I know it's nice to have nice things, but at the end of the day, it's just a damn car...
OP, I don't care how fast or not fast the guy was going, but at least you and your girlfriend are safe! (FILE A POLICE REPORT)
And since you're in LA, if you need anything, body shop, ride anywhere, whatever, give me a heads up (unless you're in Louisiana, then I can't help you, lol)

As far as I am concerned, I'm here to help other members as much as I can because I have learned a lot from other members.

You should be able to get a free estimate at any shop that any shop that is motivated to get the business...

Now, the bumper is riveted (is that the word) on, so a shop might not take it off, but maybe they will? Or you can suggest that you'll take the tail lights off for them (it's a bitch, but if you're in SoCal LA, I'd be more than willing to help with that too) then you can get another view of behind the bumper, and you'll see how it's held on, and so will your body shop...

Also, since EVERY PERSON I know with PW complains about their paint, make sure your shop isn't "reasonable" with the job they do, even if their price is reasonable... You'll kick yourself every time you look at your car if they don't match the color or blend it crappily...

If it turns out and there is no damage below, you may wanna try the Dr.ColorChip Custom Automotive Touch-Up Paint Kit - Dr. ColorChip: Automotive Paint Chip Repair Systems and see how that will work for ya. That is if don't wanna risk going to a body shop and they do not get the Pearl White correct....I have seen horror stories with matching that color.

I have not tried it personally, but a few guys here and 2 of my buddies on Maxima.org have and had good success with it. I just looked at some other forums and others have had good success as well.

Is your neck ok??? You said the impact was pretty hard, right??

Just aware if you got whiplash.

didymus 10-25-2012 07:04 PM

So you didn't file a police report?

Good luck getting money from this guy!

w0rM 10-25-2012 07:10 PM

To paraphrase... you can't get blood from a (uninsured) turnip.

Glad you're ok at least.

thekinn 10-25-2012 08:24 PM

I came in expecting to see the hatch crushed in past the rear axle, and I see a paint chip. Well, I guess you are lucky man. Hope it all works out.
