They crashed my car!!!

Some fucken idiot wasnt paying attention to the stopped traffic and rammed right into my rear end!! AMAZINGLY nothing, absolutely nothing happened other than half a penny size of paint chipped off. I think what saved me was that i didnt have my foot on the break. Honestly, im i credibly impressed with the rigidity of the car. He hit me at freeway speeds!! Im so mad right now. He didnt have insurance so i got his license and car plates.. And im gonna make him pay for it... I just bought the car a couple months ago, im not paying for his lack of attention to the road.
Anywhooo... Just thought id share with everyone. Ill post pics tomorrow.. Still a bit shaky from the whole thing, He hit me pretty dam hard.

forza370z 10-24-2012 10:54 PM

Sorry to hear that but glad you didn't get injurd and the car didn't get much damage too. Time to make a list of items to "repair/replace" - amuse bodykit, FI catback, HKS coilovers, work wheels... Just name a few.;)

Wow very sad to hear :( But glad your fine :)

I would have it inspected at a body shop to make sure the crash bumper has not been compromised and the foam cover is not damaged.

The last thing you want is for that to fail if it were to happen again at a higher speed resulting in God forbid injuries. IMO

Never thought of that! Thanks for the advice!.. So any body shop will do? How much do you think they'll charge?

I have no idea to be honest

Mr&Mrs 10-24-2012 11:08 PM

I don’t see how you got hit at freeway speeds and just the paint got chipped. What did he hit you with a go kart? I have been in enough accidents (none of which were my fault) at variable speeds to have a good idea of MPH to damages.

Either your fluffing the "speed" or there is a tremendous amount of damage under the bumper and you need to have it inspected.

Sorry if I sound like a jerk but this does not add up to me.

Well he was on a 1999 corolla, going freeway speeds but slammed on the breaks right before and i didnt have my foot on the break so that might have softened the blow.

But by all means, you dont sound like a jerk. Nothing happened to my car on the outside. So im HOPING that nothing happened underneath.
All i know is either im extremely lucky, or my car is a disaster from the inside..

Believe me, last thing i want to lie about is me in a car accident on the freeway.
Ill try to take a pic of it right now.
But im just as baffled as you are

Mr&Mrs 10-24-2012 11:29 PM

Well now that you added he slammed on his breaks it makes more sense. I guess the way I read the first post he hit you at freeway speeds. Sounds like he slowed down to 5 MPH or less.

3rd day I owned my pearl white I was spraying it off and a 1/2 dime size piece of paint shot off the rear bumper. Guess your paint is stronger than mine.

I got quotes from dealership on both a blend and full bumper repaint. If you need to check pricing pm me.

LakeShow 10-24-2012 11:49 PM

Wow man, sorry to hear that. I see so many drivers just not paying attention while driving.

He must have said sorry 100 times for bot paying attention.. Ahhh.. Well me and my GF health is more important than a small paint chip. Thankfully it wasn't anything major you know

omm370z 10-25-2012 12:00 AM

Very lucky but just replace the part and charge him.

axmea? 10-25-2012 12:31 AM

+1 to what Triple's said. The foam bumper underneath the shell may need to be replaced. Same thing happened to me. I stopped for an emergency vehicle at a corner and the guy behind me kept going. Nothing major on the surface but it cost $1100 to get it fixed.

Damn, what's the penalty for no insurance in the US?

Depends on the state but usually a ticket. And I'm not really sure why you said he hit you a freeway speeds when he obviously didn't. It really takes away from the credibility of your story

You have to think a minute here, the OP WAS in an accident just multiple hours ago, the poor guy is still shaken up and isn't remembering all the little details. When he gets time to process and think through the tape in his head, then he'd have a clearer story.

Glad you're ok OP. It could have been worse...X 2

Thanks!.. I feel better after i got some sleep. I cant say for sure how fast he was going, but thankfully it wasnt fast enough to make any major damage

VDC_OFF 10-25-2012 08:51 AM

How did you not manage to beat his ***?

scottIN 10-25-2012 08:54 AM

I believe the standard is that anything under 5 mph cannot cause damage, except cosmetic.

I was rear ended @ 40 mph while sitting still. $22,000 damage to my Acura.

Just looking at the Z, I'd guess anything over about 10 mph would jack the bumper, hatch, quarter panels and everything underneath.

You guys have no idea how much i wanted to lol.. Its not like if i suddenly stopped i was stuck in traffic for a good 2min before He rammed into me.
But i think if it wouldve been severe damage, and he wouldve said he had no insurance.... I think i would have thrown him to the opposite side of traffic. Lol

Here are some pictures for you guys.
I haven't been in a car accident for some time now, so i was a bit shaken up. I cant say for sure how fast he was going, so ill retract my previous statement of him going at freeway speeds since i honestly cant say if he was going 5mph or 60.. (Sure *** hell felt like 60 lol) but nonetheless, thankfully, my bumper is still in one piece, and me and my passenger are ok. Now lets just hope the frame underneath the rear bumper wasn't damaged :(

Astrosfan 10-25-2012 09:43 AM

yeah.... i was rear ended at 30mph and it caused 23k worth of damage.... they crumple like a piece of paper.

You should have filed a police report. first, anyone with out car insurance should get a ticket everyday and can suck my nozzle! ive been hit several time and only one person had insurance. and second, good luck actually getting the dude to pay....its not gonna be cheap.... sorry dude, not trying to be a dik, just realistic... car accidents suck!

Thechidz 10-25-2012 09:51 AM

I really hope you called the cops and got an accident report otherwise you might be sol

Mt Tam I am 10-25-2012 10:04 AM

I am glad to hear about your low damage incident. Impressive.

danegrey 10-25-2012 11:04 AM

sorry to hear about the bump, but do have it checked out as everyone says...
good luck to you

Z370Z011 10-25-2012 11:14 AM

after seeing the small damage, do you guys still think it'll be enough to have damaged the inner frame and foam?

omm370z 10-25-2012 11:19 AM

You are really lucky indeed.

It's possible, you never know, since these cars have plastic bumpers they tend to pop back out
And I know. In these modern cars ANY accident feels HUGE, someone slammed on their brakes on the freeway and I was in my '09 Maxima, and I must have hit the person at less than 5mph, but holy crap it sounded and felt bad, the only damage was an imprint of the trucks tow hitch in my bumper... (Wasn't my fault, woman had dropped a water bottle and slammed on the brakes trying to pick it up)
And with the Z, my buddy was driving to school so I could read and he pulled into the parking space, coasted to maybe half a mile per hour and hit the wall, luckily I had my tow hook installed, so no damage, but it was a hell of a jolt (and yeah, I'd let him drive again)
I know it's nice to have nice things, but at the end of the day, it's just a damn car...
OP, I don't care how fast or not fast the guy was going, but at least you and your girlfriend are safe! (FILE A POLICE REPORT)
And since you're in LA, if you need anything, body shop, ride anywhere, whatever, give me a heads up (unless you're in Louisiana, then I can't help you, lol)

As far as I am concerned, I'm here to help other members as much as I can because I have learned a lot from other members.

You should be able to get a free estimate at any shop that any shop that is motivated to get the business...

Now, the bumper is riveted (is that the word) on, so a shop might not take it off, but maybe they will? Or you can suggest that you'll take the tail lights off for them (it's a bitch, but if you're in SoCal LA, I'd be more than willing to help with that too) then you can get another view of behind the bumper, and you'll see how it's held on, and so will your body shop...

Also, since EVERY PERSON I know with PW complains about their paint, make sure your shop isn't "reasonable" with the job they do, even if their price is reasonable... You'll kick yourself every time you look at your car if they don't match the color or blend it crappily...

Montez 10-25-2012 04:09 PM

If it turns out and there is no damage below, you may wanna try the Dr.ColorChip Custom Automotive Touch-Up Paint Kit - Dr. ColorChip: Automotive Paint Chip Repair Systems and see how that will work for ya. That is if don't wanna risk going to a body shop and they do not get the Pearl White correct....I have seen horror stories with matching that color.

I have not tried it personally, but a few guys here and 2 of my buddies on Maxima.org have and had good success with it. I just looked at some other forums and others have had good success as well.
