Default Cold Start up question

We've got a '10 370, and while I dont think its a problem, I've noticed the sound on the initial startup sounds almost like valving in the exhaust for the first 30 seconds after startup. A uniquely different sound than when its warm...? Figured someone on here would prolly know what that is.

Not sure what "valving" is (pardon my ignorance), but our cars tend to have a rough cold startup. The engine and exhaust sound plain bad initially. I believe it has to do with oil needing to recirculate through the engine. I just wait til my RPMs get just under 1k before I drive.

Normal. Goes away after about 30 secs of idling.

I hate my neighbors.

But I still feel bad starting the Z on a cold morning with my fast intentions exhaust.

God damn it's loud

I think what you're hearing is the engine before the oil gets warmed up and circulated. It's normal.

Yep, my Nismo does the same thing on a cold start, but it goes away after warm up.

If you live in my hood you are just SOL...my other ride is diesel with a strait pipe and 6 in tips. My next door neighbor has diesel dually with strait pipes and the neighbor across the street has a v8 Nissan PU with an after market exhaust. So the addition of my Nismo and short-tails have brought smiles from my neighbors.

As they say in real-a-state...location, location, location.

Yes, starting the Z with the F.I. exhaust and HFC is like waking up an angry bear in the morning. It rattles the garage doors and even the office window. Get turbos. It'll reduce the dB just a bit.

Speaking of which, I saw a YouTube video posted by a G37 owner a long time ago, now I'm hearing it as well. Do you guys hear and initial metallic clank or rattle of some sort on initial start? Almost like wigging the stick in neutral to produce the rattle.

Yeah the rattling u hear is normal it has to do with our clutches i think. Wouldnt worry about it. Remember u bought a sports car if u want quite no squeeking or rattling theres always the prius lol
