^ Who made his hood?

Shunya 07-14-2009 08:20 AM

Looking really good :) keep up the good work!
Vented wide fenders would be sexy~!

SpawnAeroJohn 07-15-2009 12:19 PM

Just wanted to let everybody know the car was picked up saturday with no parts. Our suppliers sent us bad resin so we had to trash those parts we made (not the molds, the carbon fiber parts only) and we had to get new resin. We just got a few samples of resin last week to try and see what would work best for us and so far it looks like we have exactly what we need. We are working on his parts and with in the next week (give or take a few days) we will be sending him parts starting with the CF roof, b pillars, front bumper overlay, and rear valence overlay.

Just an FYI because I dont want anybody getting the wrong ideas.

Once he gets all the parts he will post pictures when he has a chance. We how ever will post pictures of the parts here at our shop but we cant control when he takes pictures. Bullitt wanted to get a good amount of parts on before he took pictures from what I was told. Stay tuned!

I'm afraid, with this Resin Fiasco, that i've already gotten the wrong idea. You guys are making things I'm interested in buying, but it seems like it's the first time you've done all this. My advice is to shoot final shots of the products Only, to present your products in a finished form. No doubt you'll do lots of business here, but so far all I have is questions as to the real quality of your finished parts...

SpawnAeroJohn 07-15-2009 07:09 PM

Dont be at all my friend! Before we did small honda parts and stuff like mouse pads and cup coasters where nobody wanted to pay anything so we used polyester resin that we had no doubt they would not last since they were small parts that barely touched heat. But now since we do much higher quality products for higher quality cars we switched to an epoxy system and with out testing anythign we thought the epoxy would work well because we were told it was amungst the highest quality. Turns out they found out that they were wrong and told us only after we made a few pieces. That is why we spent the next week and a half after that trying other epoxies. Right now we are using some that so far have been tested up to 300F and shows no signs of falling appart. Average sun temp gets to 140 - 153 at 90F weather.

Not only that we clear coat our parts with dupont automotive clear and guarantee all of our work for life :)

Mike 07-15-2009 09:02 PM

First of all, I wish you the best success.

All I think Steve was saying is that it might have been better to wait until you had the product ready to go before marketing it. However, I also really like seeing the development part too, and you guys showing that you won't put out a sub par product also means a lot. I've seen several vendors on other forums do similar stuff with upcoming products and then never follow through. They get a lot of interest up front, but then lose their rep and noone wants to deal with them when they finally do come through.

CF isn't for me (well maybe the FI Exhaust, for the weight diff), but if after everything is said and done, you get it right, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from you.

bboypuertoroc 07-16-2009 03:17 AM

Awesome thread is awesome.

tvfreakazoid 07-16-2009 06:07 AM

Can you let us know how much of a weight difference this will be in the end?

Yeah when they told me they have resins that can hold up to 180. I chuckled and said 153 is average in the sun temperature for chicago. Imagine anything south / west. The minimum has got to be at least 200. And thats just for the parts that arent near the engine. Hoods, fenders, etc have to be able to withstand at least 400.

SpawnAeroJohn 07-16-2009 08:27 AM

Sure can!

tvfreakazoid 07-17-2009 05:25 AM

Sweeeet!:icon18:

hellogoodbye 07-18-2009 08:13 PM

nice job :P i might be getting those parts lol

shadspimp 07-18-2009 09:01 PM

John anything else close to finished, or in the works right now that we'll see in the next couple days?

SpawnAeroJohn 07-19-2009 01:43 PM

This new week Ill be sending b pillars, front bumper license overlay, and a rear valence to bullitt. Then after we finish these 3 we will be making the roof. We have to finish the vented hood then show you guys, create the mold and then out of that mold make bullittes hood. And we are still looking for a local person to come down so we can create a mold of the reverse side of the hatch. We didnt have time to make both sides of the hatch mold :(...

We are also finishing the spoiler prototype.

Endgame 07-19-2009 03:57 PM

cool

Scribe 07-24-2009 01:21 PM

Any updates on this?

Spikuh 07-24-2009 05:36 PM

Yes please.

rreign 07-27-2009 08:00 AM

Yep been waiting for him to get all of his parts on and post some pics

SpawnAeroJohn 07-27-2009 08:59 AM

I made a post in another thread stating that we had problems all last week making parts since some of our equipment took a dive on us but last night I was able to get some things straightend out. Today we get a new shipment of materials and am glad to say that we will be shipping this week :).

Ok, you got me.... I hadn't looked into this thread for a little while and since you said that, I checked it out. My apologies bro. Hope everything works out this time, lol.

SpawnAeroJohn 07-27-2009 09:06 AM

No apologies needed :) We got a little bad luck when we finally started making the cf panels. First was the bad resin, then once we got good resin the pump went belly up as well as they started tearing up the ally behind the shop so last week we had to have the doors and windows closed unless we wanted a nice dust cloud ha. Just a terrible past 2 weeks. But good news is! Its a new week, new materials, new equipment!

mrmixitup 08-31-2009 12:47 AM

Looking for lots of CF pieces for my new car.

Any updates? This is a great thread BTW.

bullitt5897 08-31-2009 10:04 AM

Still waiting on the first round of parts

marcussoori 08-31-2009 12:08 PM

!!!??? Why is it taking so long for you to get your parts? There's another thread by a guy who waited over a month without parts, requested a refund and his part back, and still hasn't received it!

shabarivas 08-31-2009 12:24 PM

a lot of bad rep going around - people need to realize these are tough times but the vendors also need to be at least pro-active about keeping channels of communication open

m4a1mustang 08-31-2009 01:11 PM

Tough times? Really?

That doesn't fly at all.

This is simply a case of being in WAY too deep.

takimbe 08-31-2009 02:03 PM

ditto. STILL waiting on my B-Pillars...its been over a month and the money could have been used to pay for other stuff. if i dont get them at the end of this week im requesting a refund.

Division 08-31-2009 02:13 PM

Makes me sorta glad I didn't respond to the unsolicited PM offering me parts a few weeks back.

m4a1mustang 08-31-2009 02:24 PM

Well I feel really bad for everyone that has their money tied up in this mess. I hope it works out but I have a feeling there is going to be more bad resin, more revamping of production processes, etc. I.E. excuses.

SpawnAeroJohn 08-31-2009 02:27 PM

Nope!^ Were just simply filling orders now :) We had a rocky start but we'll finish up well :)

m4a1mustang 08-31-2009 02:36 PM

Well I certainly hope so.

bullitt5897 08-31-2009 04:11 PM

I have faith in John they are trying new technology to gain amazing quality. You pay to play! In our case time is money. For those of you making the bad rep responses I understand everything that is going on with John at the moment and I know what they are dealing with. just give him a lil more time and these will be shipped out.

-mike

Your customers would feel better if you say "We're simply shipping orders."

bullitt5897 09-01-2009 02:35 PM

Talked to John a few minutes ago. The original orders for B pillars will be going out thursday. The last set should be built today leaving tomorrow for dipping and clear coating. Once they are dry and go through Spawn Aero's quality check process they will be packaged and shipped. John and team are working hard guys and we should have our parts SOON!!! :excited: John has also had other forums and clients sending them parts for work to be done. They are working hard to get these parts out so lets have a lil more patience... I cant wait to get mine :D

nogoodname 09-07-2009 12:12 PM
