I didn't know that, :tiphat: just seems strange there is such a large variance.

All I hope with these types of reviews is that it doesn't hurt the value if our cars. We as mostly happy owners Don't care for reviews anymore and "smart" shoppers don't just read reviews but research and ask questions on forums like this one.

I'm a late bloomer to this article but this is laughable. Has anyone had a steering lock, oil consumption issue since 2010. I'm on 2 Z34's and a G37s... non have had an issue. The whole C&D thing... I think is a bad reflection of the magazine and not the car.
Fuel starve to me is something of concern till this day. the Z manual transmission seems to be extremely quirky and not the best feeling.
But the Z auto and Z manual should be judged differently as well... More auto's seem to run a little bit cooler, have slightly lower NVH, are more reliable, and obviously faster. I'm sure this offsets some of the issues that are found in the manual.

Either way, The Z is still far from a junk car and most unreliable Z's have been found on stock street Z's being tracked. Though this car is track-able with mild mods. without those mods, on a track it may not belong? Depending on who's driving.

If you're going to track the car. add the right tid-bits it needs. Otherwise, the Z is very reliable as an aggressive street car. PERIOD. There's better cars out there but for the money, the Z doesn't do too shabby.

Just like the 90's imports. People won't appreciate these cars till they are gone. the Z is still
1. The fastest NA-v6 under 40k (quarter mi. 13.1-13.4sec)
2. Has the most grip/widest tire under 40k (.99-1.01g)
3. Most powerful 2 seater under 40k (332/350hp)
4. Near-perfect 100.4" wheelbase & 53/47% weight dist.
5. Under 3300lbs in base guise pre-2012. under 3400lbs post 2012
6. Only car to have proprietary and popular SRM feature on a manual.
7. Fastest 60-0 braking with sport pkg. 102ft

The Z is no BRZ in weight but the next lightest v6 is the gencoupe and then the mustang. The gencoupe 2.0, which is a 4 banger still is heavier than a Z @ 3400lbs and the mustang v6 3500lbs.

Why isn't all of this mentioned in magazines? CORPORATE POLITICS!!!

It's likely just a phase, the 370 was the cool kid on the block a few years ago. I'm sure once nissan FINALLY retires the platform opinions will change.

I know they will. It's the hypocritical way of american journalism.

Agreed, and it sucks because it can hurt resale value. In my area an 09 370 will sell for roughly the same as an 11 5.0. I'd like that kind of trend to continue.

I'm not sure bias is the right word. We all spent $25k to $45k to buy a car we thought was great. That doesn't make us bias but it pretty clearly demonstrates that there are a lot of car people out there that think these reviewers don't know what they're talking about.

Just because some C+ journalism student gets a job at a car magazine, it doesn't make him an instant expert on cars.

:bowrofl: completely agree. Okay, maybe being bias isn't the best word... how about post-purchase rationalization :ugh2:
But don't get it twisted, I love my Z and the Z's I had before this one.
I just don't like it when there is one neutral or bad review and people freak out. F*** the reviewer, he's probably a C+ journalism student.

I don't freak out cuz I know the Z and its capability. When I hear negatives from acquaintances reading car mag literature. I can change there mind with offering them 10 minutes in the passenger seat. What pisses me off though is, we're in a country where people instantly believe anything read in a popular magazine without knowledge or testing of a product.
It kills Z sales which can affect us in the future. It's things like this that drop car value, Make Nissan cancel or NOT export the Z for sale in America, or it makes people lose interest in wanting to enter the sports car world in general.

Better buy a Mustang then, their transmissions are F-L-A-W-L-E-S-S.

If you guys think journalists are tough on the 370Z, you should be glad you don't own a Corvette.

Ouch.

Davey 09-05-2012 03:44 PM

Yeah, and also, I looked at a Corvette forum one time and people were complaining about the roof flying off, transmissions failing, door handles coming off, dealers giving them the runaround on repairs...

I guess my point here is that if you read forums you'll see that all cars are terrible pieces of crap that you should never buy... All of them.
