Hell.. I'm 17, still in high school and taking college classes. I wont be embarrassed when I'm living with my parents at 21, because it's that much simpler for me

Hell.. I'm 17, still in high school and taking college classes. I wont be embarrassed when I'm living with my parents at 21, because it's that much simpler for me to attend University of Arkansas from home, than it is to go and have my own rent to worry about.

I think living with parents is also a cultural thing, typically in an asian (for me filipino) family it is accepted often encouraged for the kids to live with parents while they save to buy their own place. My parents did this when they were younger, of course they just came from the Philippines with practically nothing, so they had to start somewhere. Also as the parents get older (really old), the tables turn and the parents end up living with their children. It may be economical in a way, but its also very accepted in the Filipino culture.
BTW. I didn't follow the norm.. I moved out when i started college, found a job here and have been living on my own with the wife ever since. |

I've been a homeowner since I was 19 ( 8 years ago) Me and my boyfriend bought a cheap azz $60k house and remodeled it head to toe. My house looks awesome now and my car payment is higher than my mortgage

When i was 21, i realized how much it sucked living with the parents and i would continue to do so if i kept spending money on cars.... So, i decided to downgrade to a beater car, i had a house built, worked my *** off, paid off my house before i turned 26. A week after i paid off my mortgage, i bought my 370z as a reward to myself! Its definitley worthwhile to own a house before a car... That way you have the freedom to park and work on your car in your OWN garage.

And that is most important! You're home is the most important investment you will ever make. Its value may go up and down but in the long run you'll always prosper. Car's as much as I love them are never good for the savings account (but they sure make me happy)

I'm 18 and still in HS; I own no 370Z. I don't think I can ever live with my parents again (I'm at boarding school now). I wouldn't want to put that on them. I'll live on college dorm for a year, then I'll use the money I save up the first year through working to rent and apt. or "dorm suite." I've had enough dorm life already. After college, I will definitely rent. I just don't think that I could move back in with my parents; they would be very disappointed...

I am 21 years old, and bought my house a year ago.... Bought the Z after the government gave me 8 grand for buying a house!! I don't see how anyone could buy a nice car, and lack in the home department.... Gotta have your priorities..... Sure, I COULD HAVE bought a sports car when I was older (you know, when you are too old to drive it, and it is a pain to get in and out of), but you only live once, and my job has helped me to see that it doesn't matter what age you are, if you gonna die, you gonna die, might as well have some fun!! A good thread!!
