Nissan lent me $40,000 at 0%. They gave me $40,000 today and at the end of 5 years, they will have $40,000 back. Because of inflation, their 2017 $40,000 will be worth less than when they lent it.

Now of course Nissan the car company slid Nissan the lending company some cash for the 0% buy down in place of offering a direct to consumer rebate. They also know that people love to trade vehicles, so their money may not to be gone for the full term.

well how about this say you have saved your money and found a z for 40 grand say you have 34 grand cash money if you can negotiate with them Im sure they will gladly take 34 cash money and save your self some money and the car is yours completly its a great feeling not having a car payment or better yet find a used Z and save yourself even more cash. Look I know its very odd what I am saying to some of you and if you disagree thats cool im cool with that because we are all pretty mature. But I would rather pay someone cash and not worry about owning them anything there is definitly more to it thatn just having 0% down

go buy one if you have enough money or stop lurking. we don't need money advice on cars, which are some of the worst financial buys anyway.

It becomes a balance of the money invested.
If I got 0% interest on my Z when I bought I would have put less down. Why? Because I could easily take the money and invest, even in a 1% CD, and earn more. Yes I have a higher car payment, but I clearly can afford it made the option to rack in a higher return on my current cash.

Buying used can be a smart move although a little less so the last few years as used prices have stayed stronger than historical averages...

What doesn't make sense is putting money down when you have 0% financing available. The dealer will give you no better of a deal to bring cash to the table. In fact, if you don't finance the vehicle with them, you remove a small bit of revenue they receive for initiating the loan.

If Nissan was offering $2000 cash back OR 0% financing, it would be a different conversation.

Perhaps a late night TV infomercial. with quotes like " Following the Cossie car buying plan I have made over $100,000 working in my spare time. You can too."
