I agree with your perception of the M3, a great car but the interior is very outdated and the Z's steering was heavier and more "sporty" feeling, they really watered down the e92 in terms of feel in comparison to the e46 m3. I guess they were hoping that the purists would over look all the padding in exchange for the additional displacement and power.
