Default Anyone Else Cut By Outside Trim Piece?

Bought my Z about 7 weeks ago. Early on in the process of doing a few mods on it I had to crawl in and out a lot in odd positions (putting a pkg into the GPS system, etc.). At one point while doing so I suddenly noticed a puncture hole in my arm on the outside right above the elbow. I thought it a little strange, especially because I hadn't even felt it but just noticed the blood gushing down my arm (no brain no pain).

Then a couple of weeks later I got a deep scrape just an inch or so away from the first injury. At that point I started examining the trim around the driver's door. I didn't see anything on the inside, but as soon as I checked that little "point" that's right about even with your left arm - on the outside of the car just at rear edge of the door frame - I knew just what had happened. The point on that trim was really a sharp edge! It lays on top of a rubber layer but pushing on it from below pushes the rubber trim out of the way as if it weren't even there.

I got a file and smoothed it down on both sides of the car. Haven't had any problem since, but I'm amazed that the cars go out from the factory like that.

These are doubtless more problemmatical to someone who lives, like I do, where a parking garage with narrow spaces exists and you often have to "angle" yourself in and out, but I wondered if anyone else had this "bleeding" experience?

I guess it depends on your size (and the size of your forearms and hands).
But yes, I do get cut up occasionally... but hey! That's part of the game.

OK - here's a picture, looking at the back edge of the driver's door (you can see the driver's seat inside). I put a piece of paper underneath the corner so you could see it stand out against the black rubber molding that's underneath it.

I can honestly say I have never caught myself on that and I have removed all those panels for an audio install.

you're talking about the b-pillar cover? hummm.. that piece should NOT be sticking out. is your car new or used? perhaps someone broke the tabs underneath or something.

No but the door corner hurts like hell and is much easier to scratch my arm on.

My B pillar doesn't stick out though.
Smashley and nr7 like this.

I was confused when I read the thread. Now I'm even more confused with the pic. What scraped you? The B pillar, the upper trunk covering? The hatch lock? Everything on the inside of the car seems pretty rounded. I see you put somethiing white in the pic. Is that the area and you have it covered?

The "white" is a piece of paper I put underneath the "corner" of plastic (or whatever it is) trim that has the sharp edge. There is nothing broken. It's all standard. I did file it off some to smooth the edge, although you wouldn't be able to see that from the picture.

Time to bust out the JBWeld haha :P take it in stride and say you got hurt working on your car, its a great conversation point. I use the hole in the back of my elbow from ramming an exhaust hangar as an excuse to talk about that very same exhaust

It happened when I was sort of "rolling" out of the car in a cramped working environment. There wasn't much space for opening the door very wide, and I had stuff in my hands. So when I'd "roll" backwards and outwards, my arm hit up against that thing. Well, doesn't sound like others had much trouble with it so I guess I'll just consdier it an early war wound and smile about it. After I filed them down a little I don't think they'd do much damage now anyway, but they had a VERY sharp edge on them before I filed them.
