Probably. The local tire shop says the metal air valves can corrode and cause air leaks... Your car doesn't see bad weather enough to worry though. Flip a coin, heads = metal, tails = rubber.

ahh, perhaps that's why, thanks for the info. the tire shop was like especially if my car's a hobby car i would absolutely not have issues with either one, but rubber is recommended by most oem's so that's why they use it. they also claim they use the exact same valve stems that the dealers use.

Regarding Mr.GaleForce's info about the stems become rusty, depends how long after and what kind of metal does the stems made of... :icon17:

Whatever works the best for you Mr.kenchan

Well... you gonna need a coin machine in the house and prepare your kids gonna ask you for 25cents or dollar bill.... every 30secs.... LOL :bowrofl: :bowrofl:

hi mr.alcheng- major LOL :bowrofl: @ civic. hahahaha!!

yah, as for the valve stems the tire shop said they replace each time new tires are mounted so for me that would be about once every 8-10k miles in dry weather only. and my car is garaged most of the time so UV/cracking is not an issue. i suppose it's more cosmetics thing now... i guess i can get some black rays caps and feel better. lol :icon17:

so here is my knob comparison... PWJDM vs TWM biggie Type-R

i have to say, i luv the biggie type-r.. :yum:

http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...83-2-knobs.jpg

pattern...

http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...wm-pattern.jpg

driver side...
http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...twm-driver.jpg

passenger side...
http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...-passenger.jpg

the weight is impressive. it's shorter than the pwjdm and gates are even crisper.
can't wait to take her out for a spin. :excited:

fitment wise the base it just a hair too small in diameter to cover the factory boot holder ring thingie, so i made a little gasket using hard black felt. it's a factory finish. :)

http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...twm-gasket.jpg

since i used flash it emphasizes the felt, but in real life you can't see it.

yah, i guarantee you will absolutely luv this knob especially if you like the type-r design.

this is considerably bigger than the regular TWM type-r i use in my G. but it's not stupid big. it's prefect.

happytheman 07-09-2012 10:34 PM

Just thought I'd mention it here: I had metal valve stems to begin with.

What's the weight diff between the PWJDM and the Biggie Type-R?

And if you didn't catch it the first time, that looks sweeeeet!

yah, the tpms has metal stems. im not running tpms on my cars since i swap wheels pretty often i dont like re-registering to the car each time. the car can only learn one set of tpms... :ugh2:

i think it's about 200g heavier. it's a weight difference you can feel. thanks, yah, the knob looks and feels great.

That knob looks great Ken:tup: I still love my PWJDM knob though. The texture on the knob that matches the other knobs in the car really pulls things together, IMO. Although, Im sure I will switch it out sooner or later. A shift knob is a cheap mod that not only looks good but feels good:icon17: I was actually trying to decide on what TWM knob I wanted for quite awhile before the PWJDM knob came out. If I ever go w a short shifter it'll prob be the TWM. Prob pick a knob up at the same time, but thats down the road.

thanks, mr.alchemy. yah, the pwjdm knob is great for the price, i think. i forget how much i paid for the pwjdm (70?), but i think the biggie type-r is atleast 2x the price....so it better be good. :icon17:

the only issue i had with the pwjdm knob is the round spherical top. it tends to slip out of my hand when going 2nd gear especially when i need to make very quick gear changes like in the middle of a spin out. i never had that kind of issue on the twm type-r knob on my G. if the pwjdm was considerably larger i think the sphere would be a non-issue since i had no issue shifting a ball knob by momo back in my MINI days.

ZMan8 07-09-2012 10:56 PM

pwjdm never restocked the red base for their knob so I never ordered from them :ugh2:

happytheman 07-09-2012 10:59 PM

Say, I'm assuming that's the Satin one Ken?

no this is the stainless one. satin is too yellow for the z's interior imho. i use satin in my G which has that more yellowish-wamer colored titanium paint trims. :) satin is a perfect match in my G. :yum:

It looks perfect. More muted than the online version, IMO. That's the one I'd get.

Interested in first driving impression.

I want a heavier knob but don't know what to go with. I have failry large hands (think basketball player) and the stock knob sometimes slips out at the worst moments... :eekdance:

woot, gotz tracking number for gopro #2, and the driftHD gopro mount thingie, and black rays caps...:ugh2:  i hope this will fix my fixation on valve stems...

I honor your approach to life. why capture things with one camera when you can have multiple angles! :tiphat:

hummmm... i never had a problem with the Z's stock knob other than that it was occasionally a little clunky to enter the gates. if twm, perhaps the desert eagle might be better since it's a lot taller than the big type-r.

Desert Eagle Shift Knobs - TWM Performance Weighted Shift Knobs

but i think you will need to make a finisher of some sort at the base of the knob to make it fit the stock boot. unless you get aftermarket boot.

yah, i think one angle is just too limited. there's so much going on around the car that i can't capture with just one camera. and will be doing rolling shots with my wife driving the 'camera car' in front of me. :p
