Since no one else seems to be talking Z's, I will.

I took the 370 into the dealer for the 30,000 mile check-up. I (or one of my sons) do most of the work on my cars, but I had them do an oil change for me because my hand is not cooperative still. I gave them some ENEOS 5-30 and a K&N filter. They charge 10 bucks for labor. I also had them replace my serpentine belt -- again I provided the Gates Belt and they installed -- I think about 45 bucks. Oh yeah, cabin air filter replacement was 35 and the inspection was free.

We skipped the coolant flush which is due as we are doing this the week after next when i replace my 4 hoses with the groovy red silicone hoses from Z1. They have beeen sitting in a box since Black Friday. So I picked up a couple of gallons of Nissan coolant cheap along with wiper inserts.

While waiting I looked around at the invnetory -- 5 Z's, but all autos and 20 Jukes -- also all autos. The 2013 white GTR was drool-able -- too bad, it was an auto also. :icon17:
Two good things about my dealer – they are great folks and there are free donuts on Saturday mornings.

Fire 06-09-2012 03:07 PM

Congrats on the hoses onze. Sounds like you have a kewl dealer to install your parts. :tiphat: Get that hand healed and do some :driving:

GaleForce 06-09-2012 03:07 PM

Our local Nissan dealer was having a grand opening today (they built a new dealership). They had a bunch of things for the kids so I took Mini GaleForce and we checked it out. Priced out a Juke for Mrs.GaleForce had some BBQ, sat in a fire truck, got a fancy balloon, pet the ponies, etc. It was a good little guys only day.

We did stare at daddy's "race car" (Z) on our way out of the garage. That's all the Z love for today.

happytheman 06-09-2012 03:09 PM

Hello there Mr onzedge! Hows the hand?

Ahhh you went with the red Z1 hoses. I'm curious about the longevity of the color. Thanks for keeping things on track.

I've got my appt to install my spacers tomorrow morning! :excited:

Mr.onzedge, nice to hear your local dealer is willing to deal with the aftermarket parts you brought to them . Lots of dealers will give a sh!t load of hard time to the customers.... :shakes head:

thanks, mr. gale. :hello: roll off is 12dB/octave per their spec. it sounds like those noise-cancellation headphones when you turn this on in a plane. lol

at 0dB attenuation facing the rear, the input level is too hot in the low frequencies and my audio clipped. not only did the exhaust tone clip the signal, low frequency noise from road bumps also clipped it. the physical suspension bands were doing a good job isolating bumps though.

since the mic was facing the rear there's no depth in the sound, almost sounds like putting a mic in a plastic box. my tascam recorder had great depth when placed in the cupholder. (just jammed the unit in there partially wrapped in mf towel. )

so tomorrow im going to try front facing and attenuate by -10dB. will try both flat and high pass filter. i prefer to have no roll off as it sounds more natural. in a car 40hz roll off imho is better as you can maintain the rich tonality of the exhaust. the tascam offers this and real-time input levels, but the rode is just a mic and so only offers 80hz roll off.

unfortunately the high pitched noise is still in the audio, generated by the gopro. but even with the failed attempt today, when the audio was not clipping, it sounded much better than the gopro's built-in mic.

more tomorrow.

So we hook up an external mic and deal with the high pitched noise, or... use a stand alone mic set up like your Tascam for the best sounding option. Is that right?

yah, so far that is what i have. tomorrow i will see if the forward facing rode will do more justice. it's a pita though cause the power slide switch is on the back end of the mic which means i have to reach behind from the driver's seat to turn it on/off. green led's bright enough you can light your cupped fingers to determine if it's on or not. :)

This wasn't QUITE today, but whatever. I've been a busy boy, this weekend.

Ripped the front end off and removed my Stillen filters to give them a MUCH needed cleaning (I haven't touched them since I put the intakes on the car almost 3 years ago...). One had a good bit of oil on it from my oil cooler - I guess I'd better check my fittings since the repair shop was the one who reconnected everything since my accident. Anyway, cleaned off the filters and re-oiled them, and they look mostly like new again.

Other than that, I got tired of how much of a pain in the *** it is to get the filters in without absolutely f-ing them up royally, so I relocated my horn to another bolt that is out of the way, and I dremel-ed off the 2 little brackets with bolts that stick out toward the front of the car. They were the problem children that jack my filter. After all this, there's absolutely nothing making contact with my filters anymore, and I'm a happy guy. Although, I should probably consider replacing the one filter that is all gouged to hell.

Car definitely came alive, and my butt dyno is pleased with the results.
