I have had a key light off/on for the last 3 weeks, beating the h### out of my key lock to get it to release. That worked - so far. But time was definitely running out. I started searching for a solution and finally found this thread.

I ran out this morning and after activating ACC removed the fuse you referenced and bingo! Problem solved!

But this is why your going to kick me out of here - it's an '09 Altima. apparently Altimas have exactly the same steering locks and fuse blocks. This part of the wiring (the steering lock part) is exactly the same. With your
permission I would like to spread the word in the Altima forum so they can stop shelling out $850 a pop for these ridiculous devices. (could be that the info is already there but I haven't seen it in that forum yet)

I have to say you guys are incredibly professional and methodical - working out problems in a very team-oriented fashion. Mega REPS to all of you, but especially BAER, DAI and lets not forget FRITZ who really got the ball rolling.

I promise I won't contaminate the forum with any more Altima references!!!
spread it around for sure.

start up a list of failures. send it to Nissan. they should fix this **** for everyone.

easy to tell. turn car off. do you hear it? is the steering locked?
IIRC, you have to open the driver's door before it locks. But, yeah, just listen for it. It's loud enough that you can't miss it if it's there.

Maybe that's why I don't see the fuse...

It's good to find out anyway...

Default Pulling the fuse

One more thing...I forgot to mention - others have mentioned the difficulty in removing the fuse from the block because of how small it is. There is a fuse puller with your in-dash fuse block that you can remove and use to pull the under-hood fuse. If you look at the fuse block inside the car (not under the hood) you will see the tool at the end of the fuse block. Much easier on the fingers!

Great tip. I wish you had posted this before I removed mine. I didn't have a puller handy (or so I thought) and had a difficult time getting the fuse out.

I think it's because:

1) Doesn't cause a safety issue
2) Nissan is too cheap

Did you make sure the lock unit was in the unlocked position before pulling the fuse? You don't give any details, so we can't tell if you followed one of the procedures or just yanked the fuse out.

Edit: Are you sure you got the right fuse? Give us a few details.
