Someone get to work and make it happen!

It's been done - I saw a module installed at ZDayZ back in '05 (with a 350 of course).

I don't know if the circuitry for the windows in the 370 has actually changed from the 350 or not but I doubt it has changed much.

Unfortunately I have no idea what company did those modifications/who created the module to make it work...they same guys also had a module that made the VDC a manual option; in other words, if you had it turned "off" it stayed off until you turned it back on or if it ws "on" it stayed "on" until you turned it off (rather than always defaulting to "on" every time you start the vehicle).

It sounds to me like you're talking about KPTechnologies.

What's the usefulness of this "feature"? Seems more annoying to inadvertently roll down your windows for the small gain of having this ability. I can think of few reasons why I'd want to roll down my windows remotely (well, none come to mind, actually!).

Perhaps the key fob should have a "lock" setting so that any inadvertent button pushes would be ignored (like on a cellphone). That way you can put it in your pocket and not have to worry about auto-magically rolling down your windows.

One safety issue to consider with a remote auto-up feature is that a person might have the windows down because s/he has a pet inside or something. If they accidentally close the windows, then the result could be a convection-roasted Fido. And of course, Nissan would probably get sued. So not having remote up may ultimately have as much to do with lawsuit avoidance as it does with a real concern for safety.

The KPTech link I posted earlier does have the roll-up feature for most Nissans. I posted in their forum to ask about testing this and some other things on the 370Z.

I could say something cutting such as "anyone who can't operate a key fob properly shouldn't be driving anything, much less a performance/sports car" but I'll refrain from that. :)

I've always carried my key fob in my pocket and have for as long as there has been key fobs...there have been times when I've hit a key (like the panic button) without intending to but I've never done so while the fob was in my pocket!

Personally, I like the feature a great deal - when I'm still quite a distance away, I can roll down my windows and start airing out the cabin and thereby reduce some of the heat build-up that has happened while I've been in the office, etc...not an unimportant feature when "cool" summer days here means the temp has stayed below 96 degrees!

Really, this feature (or something similar) has been available on many higher-end cars (BMW, Audie, etc) for many years...I don't see why it would be a cause for consternation for anyone and I suspect that if it were deleted, there would be no end of complaints about Nissan being cheep and not having a feature everyone else has. :tiphat:

That was about the only idea I could think of for having this feature: airing out the car a bit before one got to it. I wonder how many people actually USE this feature as you do (compared to how many owners aren't even aware it exists!)?

It's definitely new to me. No Audis or BMWs in my garage in the last couple years. :p

I'm sure many people don't know but if people won't bother to read their owner's manual and learn about their car's features; what is a manufacturer to do? :)

The only answer is neon. Preferably flashing! :)

Love that picture of your pup in the front seat. Co-pilot!

Thanks...she's my girl!

That pic was taken at ZAttack8 this year in Nashville at the Nissan Americas new headquarters building...something really had her attention as she was definitely focused on something!

Me too. It's pretty much habit now that summer heat is here. If I park my Z in the sun somewhere (like out to lunch), the first thing I do on my way out of the restaurant/store is hold down that button and get the windows unrolled so that the car's interior cools off by the time I make my way to the car.

I then realized that while I was pulling weeds the junk in my pocket had inadvertently mashed the unlock button.

fortunately i was aware that holding the unlock button for a time would make this happen, otherwise i would have freaked.

This was so friggin helpful. The windows being down happened for the second time and I was starting to frik out. +1!

Just a question. Were the doors also unlocked? I believe (haven't checked yet since it's freaking freezing outside) that when you hold the unlock button down, the doors unlock, and if you continue to hold the button the windows then roll down.

So if the doors were still locked, but the windows down could it be a problem?

I only ask as I was previously thinking of getting a Mini Cooper before finding the Z a much better fit for me, and one problem that keeps cropping up in the Mini forums were that the windows would roll down by themselves. Turns out that manytimes a switch in the door would get wet and roll the windows down, usually in a rain storm.

A link to the Mini forum for refrence to thier window problems:

That's likely what happened here.

Also, some of you may not realize that you can put all windows up by using the key in the door lock; turn the key to the lock position for a few seconds and hold it there and the windows will roll up...convenient if you want to roll up your windows without messing with the ignition/starting the vehicle. :)

Is this the case for the Base model also, or only for the Touring?

semtex 02-01-2010 02:23 PM

What does your manual say? I would think it's true for Base as well.
