Was thinking 12" resonated but honestly not sure of the difference between 18" and 12". Care to help?

18" is plenty loud. 12" wil be slightly louder maybe more drone too (0-10 scale stock is 1, 18" can be 5, 12" can be 7 and non res can be 10")

ZMan8 04-27-2012 01:23 PM

Also, straight from Tony: it's much easier to upgrade in the future than to find out it's too loud and try to downgrade.

also, what are you looking for as far as sound?

Does your model have the lumbar support?
(Not sure if that is only a Touring model feature)

Definitely something to consider for me. I'm ok with semi loud but doubt the neighbors would be. As far as sound, I want something that sounds better than the spouse's 350Z. :p

I believe that's touring only but to be honest, I don't really know. It wouldn't help too much anyway. Scoliosis FTW!

Yeah, Zman pretty much nailed it. 12" is going to be louder than the 18". Non-resonated even louder still. 12" and non-resonated will also have drone while at cruising speed. My biggest concern was going with something that would be loud if I put my foot in it, while being quiet at speed.

Tony definitely made a good point when he said that it's easier (and cheaper) to make an exhaust louder if that's your desire. Making it quieter though is more costly.

Good afternoon everyone! The last 48 hours has been terribly busy for my job. I've missed this place. :tiphat:

Compliance says they are OK with it, but the second my girl and I get married one of us would have to leave. We talked about this and decided we're ok with a very long engagement due to the joint income. Passing this information along to management so they know they don't have to worry about replacing me in 2-3 years (though if for whatever reason I have to leave after a couple years here I should be able to go wherever I want).

So, fingers crossed right now. If I can get in I feel like I'm set for life. Wide range of emotion right now. :icon17:

Just hoping I won't be disappointed...

That's exciting news! Good luck with this and keep us updated on your progress.

I've recently found myself on the job market as well, searching for something new. I've hit the ceiling for my current position and feel like my director is holding me, and my team, significantly away from the direction we should be going. After the childish temper tantrum she threw at me yesterday, I'm done. Hopefully, I can find something soon and jump ship.

When I'm cruising through my neighborbood, I keep it in third and <2k rpm. It's a subtle purr at that range.

What exhaust is your spouse running?

His is just stock but it sounds so much nicer than mine. I can barely hear anything when I'm driving. It's disappointing. I think I'll ask Tony to requote for the 18" then and then try to get the deposit going.

our exhaust is louder outside than inside. but you're correct that the 350 had a better, louder note (IMO). 18" will get you much better, and much more louder than 350Z.

To each, their own. I only want to hear my Z when she's accelerating. :driving: I'm not a fan of persistent noise. :stirthepot: Nevertheless, I can appreciate the coolness of the sound, assuming that the sound is really :yum:.

happytheman 04-27-2012 02:27 PM

Yeah bbigby, enough with the ambiguity already! :rofl2:

Oh yeah...if she goes with the 18", that's exactly what she will achieve. Quiet, unless puttin' yo foot in it! :)

:icon17: I'm really not meaning to be. We are talking exhaust here, right? I'd better start reviewing my posts better. :p. Don't want to offend anyone.

I guess my childhood just left me wanting a little more. I grew up around suped up muscle cars thanks to my uncles. Should have gone with a 5.0. :p

Back to work I go, need to make $$ for that TDX. Hope you all have a great Friday evening! Mr. Happy, I'll have a margarita just for you. :)
