Based on the original movie Godzilla from Japan when the r32 gtr came out it destroyed all other cars at the track so it was nicknamed godzilla by everyone. The r32 gtr holds records for most consecutive 1st place finishes for single model I think

Haha it's a true story. At the time it was the best street car to come out of Japan so the world fittingly attached the name Godzilla (monster from japan) and since r33-r35 are still amazing performers the name has stuck.

It was actually an Australian car mag that gave it that nickname because it won 29/29 of the Japan touring car Group A races in 1989.
