The current situation is that it is a violation to not display a front plate. The problem is there are no prescribed penalties for the offense.
Police officers enforce the laws, the court system decides what penalty is appropriate based on the law drafted by the Legislature.
Bottomline - you can decide to not run a front plate and ultimately, you probably won't be fined for it. That still doesn't save you from the time and inconvenience dealing with it.
As I told several people this weekend, I'm not interested in being a test case. I bought a tow hook bracket from gominigo. I'll remove the plate for meets (sometimes), but still run the risk of getting a ticket. If I get nailed, I'll deal with it.

That's exactly why I got the 'tow hook mount'.. put it on while driving, and take it off at meets. Doesn't stop the cops from pulling you over and writing a ticket, which then you would have to go to court to get dismissed. I sure dont want that inconvenience. And I would just love to see someone tell a DPS officer "I don't have to show you anything. I'll be on my way now."
