Yeah, good point. It might be best if your in the middle of a group and then drop out when the detector goes off. Done this many times and I get funny looks when the others pass. They can't figure it out until they see the cops and I see brake lights. I'm still in wonderment. If I see a hot sports car slow down after running it with my SUV* I figure he knows something I don't so I slow down.

For some people, thinking isn't their strong suit.

* I can use my detector in the SUV, but generally don't because it's so obvious in the SUV. It's somewhat hidden in the Z car.

Me too! I don't even run a radar detector anymore. I either just join a convoy or run at 10 mph over on cruise control.

If someone still hasn't figured that out and they have made it this far then I would think

A) they didn't read the whole thread

B) they are just stupid!

#1. All threads on topics like this wind up going down in flames over radar detectors and or speeding. They are a waste of time.

I'm not a cop and I personally only found 2 in my life that did any service, one was actually a beat cop on the street in Buffalo New York that really did his job and another one that caught a pick pocket for me, that cop died in a shooting later. From what I found most cops are really just collecting a high pay check for doing nothing but harassing innocent ppl for basic BS minor petty crimes, that should not be crimes at all and not really protecting the public as the are paid to do.

I also had enough run ins with cops witnessing , false charges, outright lies,beatings,cops bragging about how they beat up ppl and fabricate charges etc.

Other issue when ppl shell out $400-$500 for a useless radar dector, no one wants to admit it.

My radar emitted a single beep and as he passed, I saw his brake lights come on in my side view mirror.

He got me going over the limit by a bit. I asked how he got me, because he saw my detector. Instant on radar was the reply. It is hard to counter that, I said, and he agreed.

Radar detection is smart, in my opinion, but it is not a panacea. You still have to use your head, pay attention, buy good equipment and do not drive like an idiot.

I agree however you are kind of contradicting yourself.. you said it cant prevent tickets but then said it saved you numerous times? I dont think anyone is trying to argue that you can drive like a mad man with a radar detector and not get caught, that is just a unrealistic expectation. I too have gotten a ticket with my detector, however its saved me way more times than it has let me down
