The GT500 may have a SRA but it has less weight to deal with around the corners and more HP to through at the next straight.

Still hard to ignore that the ZL1 crushed the last GT500's time at VIR (the time Ford supplied that noone could equal...) by over 5 seconds.

It beat the GT-R's best lap anyone has recorded, as well, while it was at it.

The 2013 GT500 avoids gas guzzler taxes, so that means it gets more than 20 MPG combined. So that's what I'm getting right now so no difference there.

Yes, because an extra 10 cents per mile will bankrupt someone driving a 60k car

But what will be the best car for people that want an FI'd Japanese supercar that is affordable in 1992 dollars?

Thanks for posting the laps of VIR Import. As I said before the ZL1 is a total package not just one nice part. A short throw shifter, D shaped steering wheel, of course the supercharger, liquid to liquid inter cooler, oil cooler, trans and rear end inter cooler/warmer, electromagnetic shocks with 5 presets from wet roads to racetracks, integrated aero pieces including under hood air extractor, under body belly pan, vacuum operated exhaust by-pass, Baer 6 piston front/4 piston rear calipers, two piece rotors. Thats a package made for those of us that are seeking performance driving and are willing to pay a fair price for it.:ughdance: As I posted before I'm looking forward to track days with GT500's, GT-R's, ZO6's, Ferrari's, Lambo's all the high performance cars. Do I think that my car will be the fastest, hell no but it will be fast and I will enjoy my time going to the track and on the track.

Dude, the camaro sounds sick. I only knew about some of these features. The SS also comes with the coolers which is something I greatly appreciate observing and having driventhe bowtie... honestly dude, you don't have to justify your wanting to purchase a camaro to anyone. Its a great car. Just enjoy yourself and make sure you come back and do one of those Z comparos that don't even match up because they are different types of cars.
Then y'all could argue pointless shyyyt all over again.

Difference between being able to afford it vs. caring about it. Not saying guys cant afford it, but it gets old when each fill up is 90 bux for 300 miles. 50k is expensive, but it isnt f you expensive

You don't buy a car that uses up a lot of gas if you can't afford it.

At least I hope not.

Fire 03-13-2012 10:24 AM

One thing is that for me this not a daily driver so you aren't filling up with gas all the time. Of course I don't own a gas efficient vehicle as my DD is a Titan.

Lemers 03-13-2012 10:46 AM

I don't have $55k laying around to buy a car to drive every once in a while.

As it is I'd get either the ZL1 or the GT500.

But what ever I do get I'll drive every day.

Fire 03-13-2012 11:07 AM

Lemers if ya ever tried to drive a high HP RWD car in snow and ice you'd know why they aren't DD's. My truck is 4WD which definitely helps in those conditions. m4 I agree nobody should have to defend ther choice of vehicles we buy what we want, OK maybe anybody that bought a Yugo but LOL

I think the Volt is on a production hold for something. Maybe they are installing secret pockets for drugs. Oh BTW you can get a $4500 government refund for buying a $45,000 Volt.

Too much field stock. At least that's what we're told.

I dont know if that's what dealers call it. It's the term manufacturers use. Everything is based on # of days of "field stock". Basically the number of a certian vehicle that are on dealer lots and/or built and ready to be delivered to the dealer. The manufacturer bases the number on sales/orders and general inventory. If the vehicle isn't selling and they keep producing, then they are in a position of too much inventory (field stock). If that's the case, they then need to either, introduce incentives to encourage sales, or, scale back production.

The ZL1 looks to be a nice package and it also seems you'll get quite a bit for your money.

I was in the market for a 2SS/RS Camaro back in 2009. I honestly didn't care for how cheap the interior seemed in that model. I went to the Dodge dealer and drove a Challenger and fell in love with it so that's what I ended up with. I've not looked at one since 2009 to know if they improved the interior quality, but i do remember reading they were going to do so.

The Camaro also feels like of weird to look out of. The side belt line is a bit high so you feel a little enclosed.

I doubt you're gonna find a dealer to let you test drive a ZL1, but if I were you I'd test drive at least a 2SS to get a sense of the car before plunking down any money.

Keep in mind, that 2013 Ford Mustang GT500 is coming to the show with 650HP and a new suspension and some other goodies. That's the one I have my eye on.

Fire 03-13-2012 03:33 PM

you left out launch control. And this launch control doesn't limit how many you want to do. (ala GTR)

i just cant get past the looks of the ZL1.

slo 03-13-2012 05:02 PM

If you mention GTR....well even having to wait 4 years for someone like me, is worth it. The GTR for myself is one of the worlds best supercars, does everything that I need.

TerribleONE 03-13-2012 05:03 PM

It just looks like a camaro... no? ^^

Fire 03-13-2012 05:03 PM

From what R&T said the ZL1 and GT-R are nothing like each other. So it is what you want. One thing to remember is that the ZL1 beat the GT-R's time at VIR. In a nut shell this is what they said about the two cars in their test drive. Oh a note here: when they did their test the temp was right at the temp limit Chevy has for the tires 40F. Chevy says not to use in temps below 40F. OK back to the eval. The ZL1 is big and bulky but handles extremely well. The driver drives the car and it may be beyond the abilities of some drivers. The GT-R feels like a video game. Handles great and makes decent drivers very good drivers. It is 4wheel drive so handles great in marginal weather. I don't know which I would take if I had $100,000 to spend. I would probably get a ZR1 vette.I don't think you will be disappointed whichever you take.

Fire 03-13-2012 05:07 PM

Terrible the ZL1 looks like a camaro the way a gt500 looks like a mustang and a Nismo looks like a base Z. I like the agressive looks but it isn't for everybody, and thankfully not everybody will have one. Dark does the GTR limit the number of launches with launch control?? No doubt the GT-R is an amazing car.
