My understanding is that the power train is covered at any structured event. That being a drag race at any track that has an affiliation. I.e. NHRA, IHRA, or any number of the smaller bodies. Any roadrace track that is running track days. SVRA, HDPE SCCA or reputable driving schools.

m4a1mustang 06-12-2012 08:25 AM

That's pretty sweet if they cover that kind of stuff.

Fire 06-12-2012 08:33 AM

I will post the link of the owners videos from Chevy in a couple days. OMG WTH are Chevy and Ford thinking with these cars. Hard to believe they are telling you how to run the car on the track. :driving: Will post pics of my ZL1 once I get home tomorrow with it

I would bet:
-LTH, full exhaust, intake, tune
-Some suspension mods
-Weight reduction (seats)
-Tires

No doubt the GT500 is a str8 line terror. I guess simple bolt-on's include little tires on the front. Like to see a list of them. I'd like to see numbers from the Nuremburg Ring(stock) and how it does at a track against the GT-R or ZL1.:stirthepot:

Back to the "track argument". Ok I'd like to see a stock GT500 drag against a ZL1.

Lemers 06-13-2012 09:00 PM

Also I'd take the GT500 on any American freeway

Hmmm don't think 65mph is a challenge for either :stirthepot:

Lemers 06-13-2012 09:31 PM

It's 80 out here and the GT500 will beat the ZL1 there

Fire 06-13-2012 09:34 PM

Would be nice to cruise at 80. However, you have soo many miles between your cities. Hope you get your GT500 Lemers.

Lemers 06-13-2012 09:37 PM

Yeah you said that. Next week I'm starting my move. First stop is a week in San Antonio 533 miles of 80 mph highway away. We will make it in 1 day, not that there is anywhere to spend the night on the way.

The rumored times from the GT500 at the Ring were in the 7:30's from people that were there. But there is no official time unfortunately.

Lemers 06-14-2012 06:58 AM

How many times will any of us get a ZL1 or GT500 to the ring anyways?

That vid of the 9.95 was impressive from the short list of bolt ons and same with the driving. To actually get behind a car that can lay that in the 1/4 and still drive around town is pretty insane. I am curious as to how it behaves in city traffic. Tame till WOT?

Nice color choice. Try to keep it between the poles.

Plenty of Road Courses all over America that have events all the time...

You never need to go to the ring..Just drive to the local Track..Several in every state in the Union.

chris410 07-31-2012 07:47 AM

Real world/street...the GT500 owns the ZL-1 and I'd love to run into one in my GT500 which is a 2010. Mine dynoed 511 which is a few HP more than the ZL-1 stock dynos I've seen (my car is stock as well)

On the track, the ZL-1 will have better handling however, the GT500 can and will hold its own and a good driver can easily make the difference. I will admit that the ZL-1 has the edge when it comes to handling, no doubt about that.

On the strip/street I will say that BOTH the ZL-1 and the GT500 get significantly faster with a drag radial, I'm actually amazed that the GT500 (pre-13') puts down 0-60 in the 4's because I can tell you that 1st is essentially useless no matter how much you baby it and 2nd is OK for a moment then the tires light up. There are people who have switched to a drag radial *stock* and are running 11.6's to 11.8's at 120+ traps by simply changing to a drag radial. I'm sure the ZL-1 is in the same boat, the stock tires on the GT500 are horrible, I'm anxious to see how this car will be once I put a sticky tire on it because it is frustrating that 1st/2nd spin up so much.

They are both bad *** cars and I'm just happy to see good/fast cars being made again!
