They swear that one car is better because it is a Chevy or a Ford... I have always loved the Mach 1's, and the Challenger T/a's, and the Camaro's since childhood. I am not changing now... I do wish that the new Camaro had fashioned itself after the Second Gen, and not the first Gen, but that is personal choice. But I do love the Mustang's and the Challenger's...And the ZL-1's.. And the Corvette's, and the AMG's , and......and.....and.... |
I like the old muscle cars also. The Mustange I like is the big 1970 Fastback. Eventhough it looks heavy and bulky I like it.

My Challenger does triple duty as a drag strip car (too heavy for road course work), show car, and a weekend cruiser and it does ok. If I had it to do over again, I might have gotten a Mustang instead, but the 5.0 wasn't even on the radar when I bought the Challenger. The Challenger is so heavy it has taken a boat load of horse power to make it fast, as well as good tires. Mustangs are easy. I originally wanted a Camaro, and went in to buy one sight unseen in 2009, but they wanted to mark them up and all that crap, so I bought the Challenger instead. Went back a year later to buy a Camaro too, and test drove it...didn't care for it. Now I'm eye balling a 2013 GT500 as a Challenger play mate. |

But at 3.6% apr, and with the cash I have for a healthy down payment, I have to roll the dice.. Party at Mike's house if I get it... If I don't , I still have a nice home and a 4.5% loan, so all is good.. |

You are right on there..My Track weapon is my 1971 Z/28.. I put about 30K into it, but I did have a High end Builder do the work and the set up. It is a weekend warrior and never a daily driver.. Also that money included some crazy Rims and a completely new fuel system, exhaust system, and more. So ya, 20K would have been right if I did not do all the extra's, but they were 40 years old...Now all the underneath is new, and if I break it, no biggy. Speedy, you are right on there..:tiphat: |

Can't wait to see Fire's Picture's...:yum::yum:
And Speedy, what about some Challenger photo's ?:yum::yum: |
My ZL1 will be a track car, weekend driver and car show vehicle. I have a DD and like to spoil myself with this toy. Good luck again on the house Bucket. I'd love to do a west coast swing and meet up with ya. I think pics of our cars together would be very kewl. Oldschool and newschool track cars. :driving:

So happy Wife, happy Life.. But if you are west coast bound someday, look me up...My old school with 3.73 gears and a 4 speed won't be doing much long distance driving.. If it wasn't a real Z/28, I would put an LSX and a 6 speed, but I cannot change the number;s matching drive line.. So it is going to be a short distance cruiser.. |

My buddy just bought a 69' Z28 95% finished for $24K. All he has to finish is the interior which was included with the car new in boxes. That's the way to do it. He sold a 2008 Z06 and took a $30K hit...he said never again will he fool with a newer car. The Camaro will appreciate instead of depreciate. Here's some of the Challenger: http://www.speedysgarage.net/challen...boss338_10.jpg http://www.speedysgarage.net/challen...er_plate_2.jpg http://www.speedysgarage.net/challen..._covers_11.jpg http://www.speedysgarage.net/challen...shirter_01.jpg http://www.speedysgarage.net/challen...spoiler_06.jpg http://www.speedysgarage.net/challen...4-2012_061.jpg |
Nice speedy :yum:

Supercharger Speedy...:tiphat:
Nice pictures... Sweet Car....:tup: I see the Drag Tires on the back...Serious business there...:driving::eek: Thanks, I love my car and what I have done, is done right.. I still have things to do on the inside, but it is Track ready for the Autocross or the road course... Your friend did a good thing.. Cars are not selling for what they used to ,due to the economy...It is still a soft market, and he got a great deal...It will only go up from here.. |
Thanks. It's a fun and very comfortable car. I've gotten it to run 11.19s at 125 - 128 in the quarter. Gets 20 city and 24MPG hwy to boot.
Dodge's are just so hard to work with though. Very little after market support and the tuning is a major PITA. For 2011 and up they've encrypted the PCM so no tuning AT ALL on those. Dodge are a bunch of idiots and really pissed off the enthusiast community. |

My first step was to do the brakes and the suspension, ect...You know, do the right steps first and then go back to the engine ...The car is now set up for massive HP with the subframe connectors, ect...;) So now with a full Hotchkis set up and massive Willwoods, ect.., I am looking to S/C my LT-1 .. It has the flattops and bulletproof parts, so I may try the 125HP charger..I need more HP to run with the new cars..:driving: And I want to leave the factory Corvette engine since I have all new exhaust and MSD parts.. If not a S/C, then higher compression and a bigger cam...Running a comp cam 280H now, but it only runs low to mid 13's..@ 108. I now know the car will handle much more HP.. It will never get good gas mileage unless I go with an LS. I have dreams of a new style ZR-1 or ZL-1 engine, but that would take a wad that I should not spend..It would not be financially smart...:ugh2: But I spent my camaro wad of money for now... The wife had a paid off 350Z, but since I went crazy on my car, I had to put 20K down on the 370Z to make the payments low... Happy Wife, Happy Life.. So went the Interior money and my HP boost... |
Yeah, supercharge that thing and you should get way more than 125HP. The LS engines seem to respond favorably to forced induction. You could get real serious and slap some twin turbos on there and make some fantastic power, but it'll be a bit more pricey.
I went the opposite, I did the motor and blower first then did the rest of the car to handle (almost handle) it. I spend a lot more time driving on the street than I do the strip, so it wasn't a huge deal which way I went first. |

I don't see me LSing or 6 speeding the car for now.. But with the Flat top pistons I think I can get away with Super charging it..And I can leave my new exhaust alone. I also had 40 year old suspension and brakes, so I had to start there...Sure I could have gone back stock and saved 15K, but what fun would that be ? Now it is high end and ready for anything I want to do with it.. Just need more power now..400HP does not cut it ,in the modern world..Back in 1985, I was king...not anymore. Yet... |
One Fire posts his pictures, I will shut up and stop posting ,haha...

It may be the last home I buy, so i wanted a place to hang out.. But again, I low balled a short sale, so it may not happen, but the wife is up looking at the area and the offer is in... Party at Mike's house |
Yep, in that Camaro I'd have started with suspension and brakes as well. I'm wanting to upgrade the brakes on my Challenger even to a Baer system, but it's $4K and I just can't bring myself to do it. I wanna go faster, I'll worry about stopping later LOL
That house is awesome! |

The house is a long shot, but I am rolling the dice..It would be a steal if I pull it off, if not, I have a nice house, and a great fixed loan now. I would never try to buy a short sale, they are just too long and hard to get. But I will know in the next few months.. Yes, the brakes were really expensive, your prices are right on, and it was a few hundred more for Red calipers, haha:eek: Yes, I had to change all the old stuff..Gas tank, fuel lines, brake lines, ect... The suspension was dead. Did I need to go with coil overs, and Hotchkis everywhere else ? No. And the brakes and exhaust were toast.. Did I have to go with ceramic and stainless steel exhaust. No. Did I have to buy the best Willwoods that made me have to buy new Rims ? No. But man, it is now one of a Kind. I really wanted all of it, and it was the first thing on my Bucket List. I almost died two years ago due to Major Heart and Brain problems that I am still recovering from. So, yes, I went all out so far on the build, well not Art Morrison Chassis crazy, but what I could afford.. Did I have to buy the Wife her dream 370Z and trade a perfectly good , paid off 350Z ? YES...I did not see that coming..haha Had I never started my car, she would have been happy with her 350Z... But I need more than 400HP . I have buddies that have road course Camaro's that go from 0 to 100 and back to 0 in 13 seconds.. So next will be Interior and Horsepower....maybe not in that order, haha. Mike |
Man that Camaro is bad ***. PM me first if you ever decide to sell it. Seriously.
You can't take it with you buddy. As long as your bills are paid and your not in debt up to your eye balls I say go for it. I had a similar experience, although not as serious I think, and now if I wanna do something....I do it. Life's short...live hard! |
Quote:
Yes, I roll as debt free as possible and make sure that long term, I am not stressing on money.. The fine line of living for today and still having the future covered for me and the wife...Can't blow it all on stuff... But my bucket lists are in full swing. Travel, the Z/28, maybe the new Home, and maybe some more fast cars, newer one's...But bills get covered first.. Mike:tiphat: |
Off to bed...Until next time.

They come from the factory with guide plates and screw in studs, ect... It comes on about 3000 to 3500RPM and pulls hard to redline 6500rpm.. You can really feel it..I also went with the 1.52 Roller rockers... Engine has 20K Miles on it, so I may need to freshen it in the next few years... |

I went to my high school alumni association meeting, Class of 59, drove from Tidewater Virginia to north-central Ohio and back over 3 days, most of it at night, 8 hours straight on the road last night. Entomology is not what I was looking for.

ZL-1 is cool...Not a fan of the interior, but the car is a bad boy...I did not read the entire thread so if was covered I apologize, but I believe GM will cover parts breakage even if being raced as long as it was done at a sanctioned race track and event.
