Employees of a publicly traded company need to consider one single fact. The company exist for one sole reason and that is to return value to the shareholders. That is most consistently done by having a company that can show profitability and growth year over year ahead of their competitors. When company's profitability becomes inhibited by rising costs, that has an impact on shareholder value (the stock price). So when the union (one of the many contributing factors to cost) demands higher wages and benefits that become uncompetitive in the "GLOBAL" marketplace, companies profit suffers. I learned a hard fact a few years ago. My pay is based on "competitive cost of labor". If that competition for labor is global, then my pay is now based on what some guy half way around the world is willing to do my same job for - and that is usually less than what I am willing to do the same job for. We all don't like it, but unfortunately we are in a global economy and as employees and workers in a company, we are not just competing for jobs from the guy down the street, we are competing for jobs with the guy around the world and unfortunately some of them are willing to work for a whole lot less than we are. So who's to blame, well, I say it starts with the leadership in a company, the Board of Directors. The need to comprehend the global environment when developing the strategies to make the company win. You can not blame the worker for trying to get a nut. Boards and CEO's should use this opportunity to rid companies of the Union's AND figure out how to compensate employees in a results based compensation plan. Look, fact is, as an employee, nothing is free. If you think you can come in and punch the clock and do your quota, that's fine... as long as the other guy half way around the world is not willing to do more. We are in a global competition for everything. No flames please, that's just my own opinion. BTW - I personally don't think this is a yuppie car, I think a 4 door sedan like an Audi, BMW, Lexus, Benz, or something like that is a yuppie car. |

I've never known anybody that thinks a Nissan is a yuppie/snobby car. Those sentiments are usually reserved for BMWs, Mercedez, Porsche etc. And it costs $30k!! What do they think about $60k Escalades, vettes and Cadillacs then? They cost twice as much!
And if GM built a quaility car across their line they wouldn't be in trouble today. I really wanted to buy American, and I looked at a C6 vette and both the Sky and Solstice, but they were just too crappy overall to fork over the same amount of money as my Z. We also own a Dodge truck and a Ford Focus so we have no problem buying domestic. |

Your friend has such low standards. So he's your friend? I rid myself of these types of people. I hear one guy insinuating that I'd get laid off and go broke after getting my Z. Whatever...

I had no intensions of making this thread all about me, i just was curious what you guys think. These guys go round and round all the time and it goes in one ear and out the other. I'm single, no kids and the Z looked like a awsome car i have always liked and i'm at a point in my life where if i want something i will buy it. This is my everyday driver and it sucks, too damn big.

Those Ford trucks are expensive. Only yuppies drive 'em!
Listen to dad and tell your friend to blow himself. He's a lousy SOB if he's just going to judge you by the car you drive. People like that are just envious of those who are more successful than them. Not worth your time.

Your friend is jelous. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess he's not in the same boat finacially as you, etc... Its too bad ppl judge people by what they have/don't have... regardless the Z is an awesome car and I'm glad people who don't like it don't buy it. I can't even count the number of new Camaros, Challengers, Mustangs, etc I see driving around town - they are a dime a dozen - there are only two 370Z as far as I know in my city (of around 450K ppl)
