Thinkin about getting a Z
Hey guys I am in love with this car. I've been dreaming about it lately lol. I am most likely going to buy a 2012 soon. The mustang gt 5.0 is tempting though with its 400 hp engine. What do you guys think?

Dooooo it!

Well its not all about straight line speed for me. Mustang doesn't handle as well does it? I dunno I am 25 years old and single I feel like now is the only time in my life a car like this will make sense. If I wait ten years i may have wife/kids and sh@@# like that. I've never had a two seater and the practicality of it scares me away. I also live in a snowy/cold climate. Basically this car makes zero sense practicality wise but if your looking for sheer joy of driving it makes total sense.

I was torn between a Mustang and a Z as well but ended up with a Z. I am loving it so far. :) I just got mine on Monday.
|
I initially bought a Z, but after the dealer attempted to scam me I returned the car and ended up with a Mustang GT. I gotta say I'm really glad the way it turned out, because I'm enjoying the GT much more than the Z. The Z is still breathtaking from an external standpoint, and I always stop and stare when I see one drive by, but the Mustang fits every other category that really mattered to me most.
Performance, comfort, style, size, options, storage, occupants, noise, etc. Now I didnt just get any GT mind you, but rather a factory ordered black California Special. Ultimately, I just like the fact that the stang is bigger than the Z, which is more useful for me in a variety of situations. I dont think I could ever go back to the Z after experiencing the GT. |
buy the Mustang.. it's better than the Z.

I like that the 370 isn't on every street corner, nor is there a fast or slow version.
|
Yeah honestly the only thing that allures me about the mustang is the 400 hp engine. But when you think about it 330 hp in a little tiny two seater is pretty plenty anyways. I'm a fairly avid out doors man though so i am a little worried about not being able to go skiing and stuff

I am working the night shift at my place of gainful employment tonight. I look out my window and its snowing HARD. I see probably 3-4 inches of snow on the ground out there that i get to drive home in tomorrow morning. I know the Z can handle 3-4 inches of snow with winter tires but this storm is nothing compared to what we get sometimes. I guess i'm worried i'll get stranded at work when a blizzard blows in on me. Also how will I go skiing on my days off? I'm thinkin i might get the roof rack i'm seeing on the forums around here. People seem to think its blasphemous putting a roof rack on a sports car though. |
Evo or STi with some blizzaks
|
Yea four wheel drive where its at. Although I am good with rear wheel. If I have good winter tires its not a problem. The issue is ground clearance
|
Lift your Z for the winter.. :p

The Z, it can handle snow pretty good with a set of good snow tires, but yes, the ground clearance is going to be a problem with snow 5"+ I am not sure about the fitment for ski cos I drive a vert, hopefully someone can chip in. If you have to take all those into consideration, how much space does the car have is a matter to you. Don't worry about grocery shopping, the Z can handle it very very well. You might have to think about the snow and fitment for ski, if you can fit the ski no problem, snow... unless you have snow storm all the time, otherwise driving Z on snow is not a big problem. BTW, just asking, could you get a winter beater and leave the Z for summer? cheers :tiphat: CAD$0.02 |

Thanks for the reply. I can't afford a beater just yet. I think if I can get through 1-2 winters in the Z then I could easily afford some kind of beater 4wd truck. They plow the roads pretty well around here usually the main roads do not have accumulated snow. Its the residential ones you have to worry about. I think I can find a way to make skis work though |
Yeah maybe getting a second cheaper car may solve your problem?

If you can afford that, then store the Z through summer, terminate the insurance or take the minimum one. It could work out. But if you can only have one car for now, as many of us here say, get a set of very good snow tires for Winter, you'll be fine. I used to drive the 350z the whole year around in Toronto, and sometimes we have one or two nasty snowstorms too. |

It seems you have a huge sum of money for down, why not use part of it to buy the Winter beater?? It might not affect the monthly that much. |

I see, how long are you staying in Canada/Edmonton? If for short term, then you might not need the beater.

Well my work permit is a 3 year work permit. My job has no expiration though. I really like the company i work for so I don't see myself going anywhere. The issue local dealerships are having with me is the three year work permit. In a year and a half i can apply for permanent residency which would remove that hurdle. I think when I get permanent residency I should have the Z paid off and then I can just finance something used with clearance/awd |
Have you consider the leasing option?? Cos I found the buyback is not that expensive. It may be an option.

So I'm in the same boat as lots of others it seems. My first post here so please forgive me.
Currently I have a Ford Raptor I'm thinking about trading in. In the garage I have my old trusty Twin Turbo AWL/AWS Stealth. I like HP, and I like cornering, but my days of 100+ MPH are pretty low. But I do like the 0-60 take offs. I also really like cornering. Mustang GT 500 vs 370z Nismo As some others have said the 370z is a bit more rare. These days you can't drive 2 miles without seeing a new body style Mustang. Which also has the question for me. Resale value down the road.... It would seem to me the 370z would hold value much better then the Mustang? I typically keep a car 1-2 years. and drive maybe 8-10k miles a year. At this point I haven't driven either. I did just buy the GF a Maxima and we love it. It was really light years ahead of any car that ford had we tested. Camaro is out for me. Love the look, but just not interested. Challenger is nice, big *** muscle car... crappy cornering. Altho Lime green could be tempting. Sorry if i got a bit off the original post. Not trying to hyjack the thread. |
