Ahh Nismo is around 4.4 and Mustang Boss is around 4. So .4 second difference in 0-60, I was wrong. At least I added a question mark because I didn't know :P But I don't think .4 seconds is enough to make fun of me ><

EDIT:
In fact looking at standard 2010 models of the 370Z(base) and the Mustang (base) the 0-60 IS faster on the Z, see I knew I read about it somewhere. Likely you will come back and find some flaw in my reading I overlooked and make fun of me >< please be gentle if I am indeed mistaken.

Mustang boss is 4.3 0-60 on a good day stock. 0-60 is little matter though unless you are a pro driver at the track. Most people can't drive so no matter how much power you have it won't help street or track.

Mustang can't out handle the Z and it is heavier stock for stock. To give and example the Roush stage3 2012 and the Boss 2012 were tested by the stig around the track and the Boss won with 50 less HP.

m4a1mustang 02-25-2012 11:16 AM

The Mustang doesn't out handle but it matches the Z through the corners in terms of time. Feel is obviously different.

If it didn't handle at least as good as the Z I never would have bought mine.

The stats in the rags say the Z handles better, but only very, very slightly. Once again, the driver most likely makes the difference, and the Mustang's acceleration blows the Z away on straightaways.

Again, pro drivers, 10/10ths stuff. In all practical use and amongst enthusiasts like us, the Mustang handles just as well and the Z accelerates fast enough.

Specific handling tests are one thing, but actually putting it all together (i.e. lap times) are what matters the most. Straights removed the 5.0 and Z are neck and neck.

Both are awesome cars... the Mustang just has a hard time trying to prove that it can actually handle because NO ONE believes it. Even when presented with hard evidence.

Oh well, it works for me. I love taking non-believer friends for rides. Going into a corner hot they think we're going to die. :rofl2:

I've ridden in your Mustang, and I've driven behind it on the Dragon.

Anyone who says it can't handle is full of crap.

If it's quantifiably worse than the Z in the corners, I've not got the butt sensors to recognize it. :roflpuke2:

Haha why did this turn into a mustang vs 350z thread? oh wait i asked about the stang.

Yea the mustang is faster, the 370z handles a bit better though. I chose the Z though because I like the interior a lot more and its exterior styling looks far better too (my opinion). I am not a race car drvier or a tracker. I just wanted to get a quick car that I will ahve fun driving and I think i have done that!

I was gonna suggest we not hijack this thread, but the OP did ask about the two cars and how they stack up to each other... So it's not really a hijack...

Shoulda bought the 5.0....

Drove a Z this morning. The shifting is awesome. I liked everything except the stereo. What a piece of crap. Can always swap that out I suppose. Dealer in CT had 3 nismo's. One was a 2011 and he only dropped 3800 off the msrp. I would have thought they could have done better. What's people pAying for their Z's compared to the msrp??

sceptre155 02-25-2012 06:19 PM

It looks like the nismo for 2013 is exactly the same? other then a few options i dont care about. Is that true? i tried looking around but couldnt tell for sure.

LakeShow 02-25-2012 06:35 PM

^^2013 apparently gets the Touring Bose sound system.

What dealer in CT did you go to?

And as for your answer to the Nismo question yes a few minor changes:

The Nismo model doesn’t benefit from the visual tweaks, but gets a new Bose Premium Audio Package with two additional speakers and two subwoofers, premium gun metallic dark-finish 19-inch wheels, and Nissan GT-R style high-rigidity brake hoses and performance brake fluid.

My dealer stuck me with msrp, but over allowed on my trade by about $2k. Also, there is only one other car in the US, with only two more I know about scheduled to arrive, like mine.

sceptre155 02-26-2012 08:34 AM

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like its not worth waiting for the 2013 to come out. I did see someone mention they added a oil cooler on the 2012 nismo? I'm not far away from the Watkins Glen Race track. But that's a once a year kinda thing. It's going to be more of a daily driver and back road rocket. I've been checking out the audio/video forums. Looks like plenty of info on upgrading to nav, backup camera etc...

I may test drive a Mustang tomorrow... still undecided. If i did I'd be looking for a Laguna Seca model. 370z still looks better imo. The mustang interior pics i've seen look kinda blah to me also.

Nice! the rarer the better, it makes you feel like you are in a league of your own. :icon17:

280z/300zx 02-26-2012 06:31 PM

I know things have changed as Nissan is not really cranking out Z's anymore but I got both my 370z's for way under MSRP. In 2009 when the Z was just coming to dealers I special ordered my 09 touring sport yellow 6-speed. Got it for 500 under invoice. Sadly a year and a half later she was totaled and I replaced her with a 2010 Nismo. My Nismo had a sticker price of 45k. They had a 2500 dealer mark up for being a Nismo as well as charging extra for window tint, window etchings, door guards. It took 3 weeks of negotiating but I got the car for 35k and change. They kept telling me it's a Nismo and that it's a hot item but after 3weeks of not moving the car, with them also knowing I had a 800+ credit score and money to go with it they caved. If you aren't in a rush then time is on your side to get the deal you want.

With regards to the mustang, it's hard to pass up. Superior in acceleration and just as good through the corners and typically cheaper to buy and easier to find. The only downside I see with them is that they are freaking everywhere. Every time I get an itch to even go check the 5.0 out I force myself to count how many mustangs I see on a simple 5mile drive. Usually it's 20+ and gets rid of my itch for a stang. Still, unless Nissan announces something in the next year or so about a 2014 Z that is drastically better I'm probably going to another car. I mean I'll still have my 280z and 300zx so it's all good

sceptre155 02-26-2012 09:05 PM

Yeah, I'm not in a a hurry. The 302's are going for way more then msrp from what I hear online. Which is a no go for me. And the Gt500 with some options is close to 60k. At that price I can think of a few others I'd buy. Anyways... I'm ask around and see who really wants my money. I really like the pearl white. But black with some red racing stripes sound hot too.

sadly I had to rush. The car I wanted was very rare, and they sell instantly. My dealer found two before, and they sold before the dealer could even talk to the other dealership. I called independantly and asked, myself. My dealer was telling me the truth. The car I got, I bought out from under someone why was trying to get it while we were on the phone, they said. True? Who knows, but you won't find any more like mine within 1500 miles of me. Maybe one, that's it.

Its hard budging them on price on the AT. But the 6mt, I'm shocked they didn't drop price... interesting.

It's either higher trade-in & higher sales-price OR lower trade-in & lower sales-price.

What does matter is the final price, right?? :tiphat:

Yeap... no matter which stereo you choose for the Z. Its a real POS. Lol. Base+sport is a must for audiophiles.

Ya, I can't even deny it anymore, the Bose leaves something to be desired

At first I was very happy with it as my past cars did not have systems worth writing home about (except I did have boston Acoustic components up front in the Lancer)

So I was very happy with my Bose with stock sub etc, but lately I've wanted more sound...Love the Nav/Integrated features system though, so I guess its the trade off

m4a1mustang 02-27-2012 12:16 PM

Bose isn't bad for a regular person. The rear subs are a total waste, though.

They're giving you 2k over on your trade because your car is very rare... they can still budge on the price of the Z. But if you have been making your frustration as obvious to them as much as you show us??? They won't budge on the price. But if they think you have decided on something else... they may strive to give you at least $750-1000 off msrp.
If not? At least get your accessories and oil changes free... point is, you can still get more.

With new App radio Technology. The Nissan NAV is obsolete. Everything is app based now and car audio is hitting new heights. The Z nav package will prevent you from experiencing what new technologies are bringing right now.

DLS, BA, Rainbow, Focal, and jl make great speakers for cars and you can integrate them into the nav bose, but subs etc, labor will be so expensive. The system is literally grounded into the touring and nav models.

mhcoss 02-27-2012 01:39 PM

Yeah i've heard the stereo is nothing exciting. I'm not getting the car for the stereo though. If anyone does buy a car for the stereo I question their priorities. With that said, I plan on putting a solid aftermarket stereo in it that will sound far and away better then any factory stereo

alcheng 02-27-2012 02:50 PM

I found the BOSE system is pretty bad on player CD/MP3, but when I play music from the MP3 player or my phone through the AUX-IN, it actually plays pretty good and clear sounds.

:iagree: stock stereos are not great.

sceptre155 02-27-2012 06:51 PM

Well.. I made the plunge, the dealer came back with a deal I couldn't resist.

Moved another 600 off the MSRP and gave me another 2500 for my trade in. Plus he's going to get me the lighted kick plates and the Nismo Floor mats. I feel like i got a good deal.

So now to the car heheh

Not going to worry about any mods yet. The stereo has to go first.
Any recommendations for a double din HU? I'm looking for GPS, Pandora Radio and a Backup Camera are the biggies. I dont care for sirius or XM. I use Iphones. Thought about a Ipad, but havent seen any mods that grab me. Not a huge Android fan.. So I'm thinking I'll probably just stick with a double din HU.

I see most people aren't putting in rear speakers. but they are putting in some subs. Any other place to put them other then taking out the spare tire? I'm looking to keep a stock look. And I don't need to blurr my vision with Bass. I'm thinking a nice 8 or 10 with some watts thrown at it with that hatch should sound pretty good. Speakers? looks like Polks? I'd like to keep the whole thing too about 1k if a few extra bucks make a huge difference well then ofcourse. But that's the ballpark im shooting for. Gotta tint the windows too.

There is a huge amount of information on the forum regarding audio systems. For 1k most people are going to tell you it's going to be hard to put a system together. 1k should get you a HU and some speakers. But the whole shabang for 1k might be difficult. The rear speakers on the Z (non touring) are fake, but with the size of the Z 2 good front speakers sound great.

Others on the forum can really give you more information than I can.

Congrats on the car!

sceptre155 02-27-2012 07:43 PM

I'll check around in the forums. Looks like I'll have to go with a head unit and some speakers first then.

Finding a head unit looks like a job....
