Do you have a 2nd car?

Im about to buy my Z. I was going to sell/get rid of my current car, which is a ford focus. But then I was thinking maybe I should keep the focus and use it for such things as when I go to the beach/gym etc, so that I dont get my Z alll dirty.

So, how many of you have a cheaper 2nd car to use?

I only have the Z

red6spd 01-25-2012 09:36 AM

I had a 01 Subaru Forester but the motor let go right before 200k so I leased a Nissan Versa SL. Once this lease is up I will be buying my moms 06 Civic and that will be my new DD. In this part of the country a DD is almost a must, that and the Z is not very practical for everyday use.

gbrettin 01-25-2012 09:37 AM

I DD my Z through anything. It even endures the gym.

kenchan 01-25-2012 09:41 AM

i have a lightly modded G35C for daily tasks. if you can, keep the beater for your daily needs. for me, it's not worth getting dings and crap while at the stores and such. it also snows where i live and that means road is filthy with salt. car can handle it, but i dont like getting my toy car dirty. also i have 2 kids so i need the rear seats. :icon17:

i dont even use my G on the weekends to go to the stores. i use my honda fit for that since i care about my G too...

sstevens7 01-25-2012 09:42 AM

I also have my Trans Am, 1997. But it doesn't get driven much. I have it in mind to be a collector. Only 34,000 miles on her. Red with red leather...supercharged.

So you have a DD for your Z and a DD for your DD. Must be nice money bags LOL!!!!

TerribleONE 01-25-2012 09:49 AM

I got my chevy duramax... Usually drive that to work and tow the toys around.. The truck cost double the Z though :/

pedZ 01-25-2012 09:57 AM

The Z is a toy/weekend car for me. I daily drive a F-150. If you can swing the extra cost (insurance, maintenance, etc.) associated with a second car I say do it.

Ummm... pics? :yum:

My Z was my DD. Now my 5.0 is. But I have access to a few other cars if needed so it's not that big of a deal.

Mt Tam I am 01-25-2012 10:12 AM

My other car has been in the shop since early September. The Z is my every day reliable car.

PapoZalsa 01-25-2012 10:15 AM

I have a Ford Ranger my DD and the old lady has a Mazda CX-7 for the family. Most of the time at least I will have two cars.

I have a tuscan sun 2012 altima 2.5s as well.

Vince 01-25-2012 10:21 AM

2007 Toyota Tundra for winter DD and towing the toys...

Masa 01-25-2012 10:51 AM

Z is DD for warm weather and sunny days. Altima comes out when it rains or snows or when its too cold for the tires to get any grip.

370ZilverZ 01-25-2012 10:54 AM

Second car is another Z. Z71 Avalanche.

Yep, this way, the Z won't need to be sold when wife & kids enter the picture ;)
Plus, it's a sports car, not a grocery getter.:twocents:

WhiskeyHotel 01-25-2012 11:12 AM

My Z was a daily driver for awhile. After a couple of snow/ice storms here in Oklahoma that put me out of commision for a few days each (I resorted to driving my wife's Miata - gak!), I relented and bought a real DD. I still break the Z out whenever possible.

TheGreatOne 01-25-2012 11:13 AM

For a couple months I had my Z and a Lancer Ralliart (before selling it) but couldn't bring myself to get into the Lancer at all, even for groceries, I took the Z lol.

Looking for a 2nd car (3rd for the family) now that we have the baby as I'm sure sometimes after work I'll have to grab him and can't do so in the Z...plus for a winter beater...sharing the wifes 328xi this winter has sucked lol.

We use the Z almost each day. Sometimes it might not get driven. Life is way too short to not drive something you like. If you go to 1 car and its a Z, well, life will just be horrible for you :) :tiphat:

Rusty 01-25-2012 01:21 PM

Got an '08 Power Wagon for off-roading and pulling the camper. DD is a '04 Jeep GC. And got 2 street bikes.

edub370 01-25-2012 01:30 PM

98 volvo s70 t5 for a dd.... although it is also kinda fun with 18psi running thru it

nothing beats smoking a sports car in a volvo... nothing..

I almost flew out to Portland in 2010 to buy a 1995 850 T5-R... I wish I did. :(

Cristobal09 01-25-2012 01:33 PM

08 Honda Pilot for the daily grind. But working from home 100% of the time, im not sure its even worth owning a second car..........

Zeuz 01-25-2012 01:39 PM

My DD is a lifted F-250 and the Z sleeps in the garage !

Same here only replace Altima with Maxima, and I still drive my Z on rainy days. The Maxima is more of a beater though, it's a 97. I've got some blizzaks on it and pretty much just drive it in the winter.

fillyv 01-25-2012 01:47 PM

I have a 99 Crapalier Z24 that is dying. Probably going to buy a new VW Golf TDI.

BigT 01-25-2012 01:55 PM

1 Attachment(s)
2001 Hyundia Accent on snow tires. 5speed. Its a hooptie, but the A/C still works so i'm happy.

kenchan 01-25-2012 01:55 PM

Job is 1.4 miles from home, grocery store is 2 miles, and gym is .75 miles. It gets the job done. Unless I notice a hot chick with the same gym schedule as me. Then I drive the Z. haha

Nice. i love the R's. i actually kinda lucked out and ran across this one with a 5 speed by accident. they are hard to come by these days. i plan on holding onto it, cuz i could see the value going way up on these things in the future

One_Quick_Z 01-25-2012 04:20 PM

I have a 2000 Civic Coupe EX and a 20056 Ford Escape AWD V6 for my other cars.

As soon as Thanksgiving hits the car goes in the warehouse until April :)
