370z manual grind?

Grinding and bad syncros are reasons, but there could be a lot of others including the driver.

According to this poll it looks like more people don't have the problem then people that do.

Well, I haven't driven a GM 6mt, so i can't directly compare them, but I did spiritedly test drive an 07 mustang gt 5sp and that trans was much rougher, clunkier, whatever you want to call it than ours is.

also, I almost hate to say this, but I can't help but feel some of the bitching and complaining about our manual trans has to do at least partly, with folks that are either new to driving stick and/or just can't drive a manual well. (with the exception of folks that have had csc issues, that, imo, is the only real potential issue with our trans, and then again, there's folks on here, us included, that have plenty of track time & mileage with 0 issues)

I have driven several 370z manual cars. The transmission felt fine. I'm worried about durability, not initial quality. Did Nissan do anything about the failing csc or is the 09 unit the same as the 12 unit?

Haha. I have almost 35k on my 09 and haven't had any problems with it.

If you think our synchros are bad.. you should check out the 8th generation Civic Si's transmission.

/\ I dumped my 07 FA5 cause of constantly getting locked out of 3rd gear, the final straw was when I was trying to turn left across traffic and went to downshift into 3rd from 5th and it wouldn't go in and there was oncoming traffic bearing down on me. I had to just go into 2nd instead but for a split second there, not a good feeling at all. And the honda dealership AND honda corportate were zero help at all.

I put 80k on my fa5 with no issues besides a slight notchiness going into third--no worse than the z has in 3rd or 5th.

/\ the best you're going to info you're going to get durability wise, is folks with around 30-40K miles reporting no issues, like a couple of the posts above. Just not enough time has passed and these cars tend to not get driven more than 10K per year on average. Afaik, the csc is identical thru all model years of the Z.

/\ we will have to agree to disagree on this one Red. But then again, I had big problems with the FA5 trans and you didn't, and I have no problems with the Z trans, and you did...

Question 2012 370z Manual Grind

Hi Folks,
I'll cut to the chase. My 370z started grinding going into 6th at about 6,000 miles. I have been to the dealer and I am beginning discussions with Nissan.

About me: I have had many manual transmissions in my life (4, 5, 6 speed) virtually every American manufacturer, some foreign. I have never rebuilt one regardless of miles. I have only replaced two (2) clutches in my life on real old cars with unknown miles. I do DRIVE my cars and do not remember gear grinds except on missed shifts.

I have read other posts regarding gear grinding in 2009 350zs. What's the deal?

Sincerely,
Legone370z

Question Your Manual Transmission Driving Habits

Hi Folks,
I'm trying to figure this car out. I'm interested in your driving habits.

1) Do you treat the Nissan 3*0z manual gearbox any different than any other car you have owned (could include motorcycles)?

2) Do you skip gears shifting up or down?

3) If you skip gears how often?

4) If you skip gears which one(s) most often?

5) Does your gearbox ever grind (assuming you clutched)?

Thanks,
Legone370z

Default 1st to 2nd Gear Grind - Normal Driving

With under 400 miles on my '13 with an MT, I'm having a grind about 25% of the times when shifting from 1st to 2nd. This is regardless engine temperature, grade of road and RPM. I have 20 years of manual experience.

Hoping the problem goes away as the synchros & the car get "broken-in".

Both 370Z's 2009 MT with each having about 35k miles and no clunking what so ever.

You didn't mention the 2013 in the poll, maybe because too new and people wouldn't have enough miles on it yet?
